Ho Chi Minh City Bolsters Multi-Faceted Cooperation with Japan’s Hyogo Prefecture
Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Phan Van Mai pointed to great cooperation opportunities for businesses from Japan, particularly Hyogo prefecture, during a reception for its Governor Saito Motohiko on December 20, VNA reported.
Mai noted his belief that Saito’s visit, which takes place after Vietnam and Japan elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World, will open up more substantive, effective cooperation opportunities for the two localities.

He suggested Hyogo firms invest in banking, finance, tourism, trade, agriculture, electronics, semiconductors and new materials in HCM City, adding that the two sides also boast potential for collaboration in other spheres like high-tech medicine, in-depth diagnostics, health products, and personnel training.
The two localities also need to regularly organize delegations to exchange experiences and learn from each other. Especially expanding student and youth delegations to promote comprehensive, diverse and vibrant cooperation between HCM City and Hyogo prefecture.
For his part, Saito agreed with the proposals of Chairman of HCM City People's Committee Phan Van Mai.
According to Saito, after 15 years of signing to establish friendly and cooperative relations in 2007, the relationship between HCM City and Hyogo prefecture is constantly developing. After a period of disruption due to the epidemic, from 2022, HCM City and Hyogo have reorganized activities to promote cooperation between the two localities such as mutual visits by the city leaders and Hyogo, along with economic cooperation forum between the two localities.
He also spoke highly of HCM City’s development potential, saying many Hyogo businesses want to cooperate with the southern metropolis and engage in its development process.
Hyogo also hopes to strengthen cooperation with the city in such fields as personnel training, high added value production, and exchanges between residents, especially youths, he stressed.
The two sides also agreed to create conditions for high school students from Hyogo prefecture to come to HCM City to exchange, study and learn about culture. At the same time, it creates opportunities for exchanges between young political leaders, businessmen and intellectuals, thereby further contributing to the friendly relationship between the two localities.
Hyogo prefecture located in the south of Japan has strengths in manufacturing, medical equipment and pharmaceuticals, as well as heavy industries such as shipbuilding, power and machinery production, marine shipping, foodstuff, garments-textiles and jewellery. It is home to a large number of overseas Vietnamese.
