Ho Chi Minh city youth carry out voluntary work in Cambodia

(VNF) - Members of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Vietnam Youth Federation in Ho Chi Minh city are taking part in a meaningful voluntary programme in Cambodia’s capital Phnom Penh, from September 26 to Sep 30.

The activities aim to mark the 50th year of the Vietnam - Cambodia diplomatic relations establishment.

Before their trip, the young volunteers laid a wreath at the President Ho Chi Minh statue in Ho Chi Minh city’s district 1.

Secretary of the city's Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Pham Hong Son; Cambodian General Consul to Ho Chi Minh city Im Hen, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh city Fatherland Front Nguyen Thanh Trung and President of the Ho Chi Minh city's Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association Truong Minh Nhut attended the ceremony.

Doan Kim Thanh, a member of the Standing Board of the city Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Director of the Youth Science And Technology Development Centre and Head of the young volunteers’ delegation, said that after 5 years of interruption, voluntary work of the youth in Ho Chi Minh city in Cambodia is continued to be held.

“The city's Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Vietnam Youth Federation will keep conducting cross-border voluntary activities to help strengthen the friendship between the youth from the two countries,” he said.

The project aims to mark the 50th year of the Vietnam - Cambodia diplomatic relations and reinforce the traditional relationship between Ho Chi Minh city and Phnom Penh city, he noted.

During their stay in Cambodia, the volunteers will work to provide healthcare service to 1,000 disadvantaged Cambodians, installing 2 drinking water systems, conduct training on farming skills for locals, creating a “green space” in Phnom Penh, and organising cultural and sports exchanges.

The participating team from HCMC consists of 20 members of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union from the Cho Ray Hospital, the Saigon Water Corporation, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and 10 doctors working at the Cho Ray Hospital - Phnom Penh branch./.
