HUFO join hands to help disadvantaged families affected by COVID-19
On April 27, the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations (HUFO) cooperated with the Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation to present 400 gifts to poor, near poor and disadvantaged households affected by COVID-19 pandemic in Binh Thanh district and Can Gio district of Ho Chi Minh city.
At the Children's House of Binh Thanh District, Nguyen Ngoc Hung, Head of the People's Aid Coordinating Committee (PACCOM) of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO), together with leaders of HUFO, the District Fatherland Front Committee and Tzu Chi Foundation gave 300 gifts to poor, near poor and disadvantaged families. |
Each gift is worth VND 1.5 million (USD 65) including essentials such as rice, cooking oil, instant noodles, sugar, seasoning powder and cash. |
In the afternoon of the same day, Nguyen Thi Hong Diem, HUFO Vice President together with Tzu Chi Foundation handed over 100 gift packages to policy beneficiary families, war invalids, poor and disadvantaged households in Can Gio district. |
Chen Ta Yu, Chief Representative of Tzu Chi Foundation in Vietnam expressed his desire to continue to accompany the HUFO to further spread love and helping people who are facing many difficulties. |
The HUFO has joined hands with Tzu Chi in many charitable activities such as awarding scholarships to poor students, offering Tet (Lunar New year holiday) presents to people with hard living, protecting the environment, etc. |
The pandemic has greatly dampened sales, making it difficult for the students, most of whom are from destitute families, to sustain their livelihoods. The aid from Tzu Chi thus came at a time when it was most needed. |
Locals were grateful, saying that it would help carry their families through this difficult time. |
