Hungarian Peacekeepers Honored by Vietnam
From Oct. 15 – 17, the Association of Vietnamese in Hungary and the Hungary – Vietnam Friendship Association held an event to pay to tribute to the Hungarian veterans who joined the International Commission of Control and Supervision to supervise the ceasefire and report on the implementation of the Paris Peace Accords in the period 1973 – 1975.
They are also the core members of the Hungary – Vietnam Friendship Association who have been making a valuable contribution to strengthening the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
The event took place at Hugarospa resort in the eastern city of Hajdúszoboszló, attended by President of Hungary – Vietnam Friendship Association Botz László, Ambassador of Vietnam to Hungary Nguyen Thi Bich Thao, President of the Association of Vietnamese in Hungary Vu Quy Duong, representatives of other Vietnamese associations in Hungary and over 50 members of Hungary – Vietnam Friendship Association.
Addressing the event, László underlined his honor to be selected as a member of the International Commission of Control and Supervision to report on the implementation of the Paris Peace Accords. It was the first time Hungary partook in an international commission to monitor and protect peace in a foreign country.
He added that while in Vietnam, members of the Hungarian delegation were impressed by the indomitable spirit of the people of Vietnam in the fight for liberation and unifying the country and the support of the international community for Vietnam.

Upon returning to Hungary after completing the mission, László and colleagues established the Hungary – Vietnam Friendship Association to help Hungarians better understand Vietnam and support the friendship between the two countries.
On her part, Ambassador Bich Thao acknowledged and praised the contribution of Hungary – Vietnam Friendship Association and its president Botz László, the Association of Vietnamese in Hungary and its president Vu Quy Duong, and other notable individuals in cementing the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Hungary.
The ambassador highlighted that the event was highly meaningful, contributing to fostering the relationships between the two countries.
The ambassador also affirmed that Vietnam appreciated the valuable support that the international community, especially the people of Hungary, had given to Vietnam in its fight for liberation and now in its development efforts.
Vietnam and Hungary have been fostering the traditional friendship over the past 71 years and now a comprehensive partnership. The government and people of Vietnam treasure the assistance and effective cooperation with the government and people of Hungary.

Hungary has recently provided timely support as Vietnam faces the fourth Covid outbreak.
Airplanes from Vietnam arrived in Hungary 3 days ago to transport Covid-19 vaccination and test kits donated by the Hungarian government and the medical equipment of the Vietnamese community in Hungary in support of the Covid fight in Vietnam.
Ambassador Bich Thao expressed her hope that the Hungary – Vietnam Friendship Association and Hungarian friends with fond feelings for Vietnam would continue to support the Association of Vietnamese in Hungary to enhance the friendship between the peoples of Vietnam and Hungary and the comprehensive partnership between the two countries.
Vu Quy Duong, President of the Association of Vietnamese in Hungary, said the association was honored to receive the support of the Hungary – Vietnam Friendship Association, the Embassy of Vietnam and the Vietnamese community in Hungary for the event.
Throughout the event, the participants engaged in a series of activities to foster the understanding of the traditional friendship between the two countries, notably the documentary “unforgettable memories about Hungarians in the Vietnam War” made by Hungary – Vietnam Friendship Association and the festival showcasing traditional art and cuisine of Vietnam and Hungary.
