On the occasion of National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue leading a high-ranking delegation on an official visit to Thailand from December 7-10, Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Phan Chi Thanh shared about the development potential of the relationship between the two countries.

What is the purpose and significance of the official visit of National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue for Vietnam-Thailand relations?

Receiving the invitation of Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, chairman of the Thai National Assembly, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and the high-ranking delegation paid an official visit to Thailand from December 7-10.

The visit took place in the context that Thailand successfully organized parliamentary elections in May 2023 and established a new Government.

The Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly is the first head of a foreign legislative body to visit Thailand during the new National Assembly term.

2023 is also the year to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Thailand.

During the visit, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue will hold talks and exchanges with Thailand's highest-ranking leaders on behalf of the Party and State leaders.

He will meet with parliamentarians, politicians, scholars, businesses and visit Udon Thani province, where the largest number of expatriates live.

Therefore, the visit is of great significance. It can be considered a summary event of the year commemorating a decade of the Vietnam-Thailand Strategic Partnership 2023.

In recent years, Vietnam-Thailand relations have been consolidated and developed rapidly in all fields, especially in the field of parliamentary and inter-parliamentary cooperation.

What are some outstanding highlights commemorating this milestone in the relationship, as well as your assessment of the prospects for cooperative relations between the two countries in the coming time?

The year 2023 is an important milestone for Vietnam-Thailand relations when the two countries celebrate 10 years of Strategic Partnership.

The two sides organized many meaningful activities on this year. There are many highlights, but I would like to highlight the following three.

Firstly, senior leaders of the two countries, especially the two Prime Ministers and the two National Assembly Chairmen, met on the sidelines of multilateral conferences to promote bilateral relations as a good practice.

For example, the Chairmen of the National Assembly of the two countries met on the sidelines of AIPA Conferences 43 and 44 in Cambodia in November 2022 and Indonesia in August 2023. The two Prime Ministers met on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in September 2023.

Second, the official visit of Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Parnpree Bahiddha-nukara to Vietnam in October 2023 is the first visit abroad by the head of the Thai foreign ministry during the new government's term. He chose Vietnam to visit.

The two sides evaluated the results of ten years of implementing the Strategic Partnership.

They shared the same opinion that this relationship has developed well and it is time for the two countries to upgrade to a comprehensive strategic partnership accordingly.

Third, the visit of National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue this time is a new and important milestone in parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

The two sides will sign a memorandum of cooperation between the two Parliaments and between the two National Assembly Offices, bringing parliamentary cooperation between the two countries to a higher and deeper level.

Regarding the prospects of cooperative relations between the two countries in the coming time, preparations to upgrade relations between the two countries to a new level will create many potentials and opportunities for both sides to promote cooperation in all aspects.

Currently, the scope for cooperation between the two sides is still large, especially implementing cooperative activities in economics, trade, tourism, connecting road, rail, aviation and coastal traffic.

The documents expected to be signed will propose many measures to continue promoting parliamentary relations increasingly in depth and substance.
