Statistics from the committee showed that as of September 10th, the fund for the poor had mobilised over VND460 billion, with over VND8.8 billion mobilised to the fund at the central level and the rest from local level.

Accordingly, the fund has given housing assistance to over 39,000 poor families, and educational support to over 147,000 disadvantaged children.

In addition, thanks to the fund, 834 welfare constructions have been built serving poor people.

So far, 18 provinces and cities have completed the building of great unity houses and provided adequate housing for the poor.

With the launch of the month for the poor, the committee aimed to encourage agencies, organizations and inpiduals to raise funds to provide better care for the poor, especially during the 2016 lunar New Year festival.

There are currently nearly 1.5 million poor families in need of support to escape poverty./.
