According to Hindustan Times, another spell of scattered to widespread rain with thunderstorm and snowfall is most likely during March 11-13th, as per the weather department.

Upper reaches of Kashmir valley received yet another snowfall, while rains lashed across the division, bringing down the temperature in line with the prediction of the weather department for two spells of wet weather in Jammu and & Kashmir till next Saturday including fresh snowfall in the upper reaches.

Since Monday morning, while the plains are witnessing rainfall, upper reaches of Kashmir, including the tourist resort of Gulmarg is observing fresh snowfall. The snow fall has been observed in Machil and Gurez Valleys also. "We are witnessing fresh snowfall from early morning. So far 5 to 6 inches of snow had got accumulated in Machil," said a senior government officer at Machil in Kupwara district.

On Sunday mild rains had drenched various parts of the valley including Srinagar.

Director, regional meteorological centre (MeT), Sonam Lotus said that intermittent light to moderate rain and snowfall on higher reaches was most likely to occur from Saturday night till March 8 at most places in the J&K.

“Thereafter, another spell of scattered to widespread rain with thunderstorm and snowfall is most likely during March 11-13th with occasional breaks in-between,” he said.

The precipitation may disrupt Banihal-Ramban and Zojila highways due to landslides and snowfall.

The maximum temperature in Srinagar on Sunday night was 4.8 degrees Celsius. In Pahalgam and Gulmarg, the mercury plunged to 1.1 degrees and minus 1.7 degrees Celsius respectively.In the union territory of Ladakh, minimum temperature in Leh during night was recorded as minus 5.6 degrees.

5-Day Nationwide Weather Forecast

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a western disturbance located over north Pakistan and neighbourhood is set to cause isolated rainfall/snowfall over the Western Himalayan Region (WHR) on March 9.

Further, an induced cyclonic circulation lies over Punjab and neighbourhood, and it will cause isolated trace/very light rains over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and north Rajasthan during the next four days.

Moreover, under the influence of two western disturbances in quick succession, which are likely to affect the WHR and the adjoining plains of Northwest India—first from the night of March 9 and second from March 11—scattered to fairly widespread rainfall/snowfall with isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and hail are on the cards for the WHR during March 10-12, with isolated heavy falls likely over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh on March 11-12. Isolated rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning have also been forecast over the plains of Northwest India during the same period.

As for the Northeast, the interaction between lower-level easterlies and mid-level westerlies will produce fairly widespread to widespread rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh during March 9-11; and scattered rainfall over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during March 10-11. Isolated thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also on the cards across the region during March 9-11.

Sunny weather is expected over the rest of the country, as most of it will be covered with a large high-pressure area. Both daytime and nighttime temperatures will be quite higher than normal in the northern half of the subcontinent. Temperatures will continue to be extreme or quite high in the central part of the Western Himalayan region, including Nepal, at least until late March.

A heatwave is on the cards in parts of Maharashtra, as maximum temperatures of 40°C or more are possible in the lowland areas a little far from the Konkan Coast, in areas such as Kalyan, Mahad, Chiplun and Rajapur, for the next five days.

Regional Forecast

Isolated thunderstorms are possible in the southwestern half of Jammu, Meghalaya, southern Assam, Nagaland, southeastern Arunachal Pradesh and coastal Tamil Nadu, Weather.com reported.

Maximum temperatures of 40°C or more are possible over some plain areas located inland from the Konkan Coast such as Kalyan, Mahad, Chiplun and Rajapur in Maharashtra, and east of Puttur in Karnataka. In the morning, dense fog is possible in the west end of Gujarat.
