From the end of April until now, Vietnam is in the fourth wave of Covid-19 infections with a fast and strong level, with a higher number of new infections and deaths compared to the previous three outbreaks.

However, on a global scale, the numbers of new infections and deaths in Vietnam are still very low.

Vietnam has methodically implemented measures to prevent and control the Covid-19 pandemic, potentially saving beds for intensive care to receive serious patients.

Not only the efforts to contain the pandemic and treat domestic cases on the one hand, Vietnam has affirmed its position and role in the international arena when it has made many efforts and achievements to help the international community as well as surrounding country like Laos.

Vietnam - important and potential destination for future MEDEVAC cases

Recently, UN leaders and representatives at different levels expressed their appreciation for Vietnam's goodwill and international solidarity. At the same time, they appreciated the professional capacity and the contribution of the Vietnamese health sector to the care and protection of people's health, and to expand international cooperation.

On April 30, 2021, at the request of the United Nations, Vietnam successfully received and treated a UN staff member infected with Covid-19 in severe condition under the MEDEVAC mechanism (emergency treatment for patients who are UN staff abroad).

Kamal Malhotra, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Vietnam, assessed this as a new milestone, an achievement marking the cooperation between Vietnam and the United Nations. He also affirmed the increasingly important role of Vietnam in the international and regional arena, as a country that can receive and treat patients from other countries according to international standards and quality.

This gesture once again affirms the humane tradition of the Vietnamese people, Vietnam's goodwill and commitment to contribute to international cooperation in the response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
