Israeli Embassy in Vietnam, Miss Universe H'Hen Nie, ZIM Shipping Company, and the provincial People's Committee on June 14 held the opening ceremony of a container library for students at San Bay satellite school in Phuc Than commune, Than Uyen district, Lai Chau province.

This is the second friendly library donation project jointly implemented by the Embassy of Israel and Miss Universe Vietnam 2017 H’Hen Nie, after the early 2022 project in the northern province of Ha Giang. In addition, the project will continue to donate another library in Lai Chau's Phong Tho district.

The project provided books to 96 Thai ethnic students from grades 1-4 studying at the school, who still lacked story books and reading activities. Teachers and school education staff will be trained on how to operate the library and organize reading hours. After two years, the effectiveness of the program will be tested and evaluated.

Speaking at the ceremony, the organizers and sponsors expressed their hope for improving reading habits for local children in remote areas and promised to continue such program in the future.

Israeli Ambassador Nadav Eshcar and H'Hen Nie spoke to children and teachers in the school. Both encouraged the children to be academically curious and follow their dreams.

The container library is sponsored by the Israeli shipping company ZIM and transported from Hai Phong port. ZIM is a top 10 ocean carrier in the world, has been operating in Vietnam for more than 20 years and is the only unit transporting goods on the Vietnam-Australia route. At the end of last year, ZIM gave Vietnam's Ministry of Health medical equipment to fight against Covid-19.

Earlier, on June 13, the People's Committee of Lai Chau province and the Embassy of Israel jointly organized the seminar to enhance cutting-edge agricultural solutions.

Attending the seminar, there were Israeli Ambassador to Vietnam Nadav Eshcar, leaders of Lai Chau and Quang Tri provinces and nearly 40 representatives of leading Israeli agricultural companies, representatives of Vietnamese companies.

The seminar was an opportunity for Lai Chau to introduce potentials and opportunities for cooperation, experience sharing, and hi-tech agriculture between Lai Chau province and Israeli and international partners, and businesses.

The Standing Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee expressed his wish that the Israeli Embassy and businesses would be interested in exploring investment opportunities, and support Lai Chau province in implementing educational cooperation programs; transferring automatic fertilized-irrigation control and management system; building greenhouse systems, nurseries and open fields.

At the workshop, Ambassador Eshcar valued the recent cooperation between the two countries in general and between Lai Chau and Israel in particular.

Israel is willing to support Lai Chau in introducing new and modern technologies to local farmers, he affirmed.

The two sides took the occasion to discuss high-tech agriculture which is Israel's strength. Representatives of four Israeli agricultural enterprises also introduced high-tech agricultural models such as a family-scale greenhouse, household irrigation systems, household organic gas solutions, and organic waste to energy systems.

On the same day, Israeli Ambassador Eshcar had a courtesy call to Giang Pao My, secretary of the provincial Party Committee during which he acknowledged Lai Chau's potential for agricultural development, and expressed his wish that the province would share more about post-Covid-19 recovery and development and look forward to promoting bilateral cooperation.

My affirmed that the two sides have huge potential to promote cooperation in high-tech agriculture and water management. Israel has a lot of experience in dealing with drought using modern irrigation technology and applying AI to solve farming challenges. The strengths of Israel are favorable conditions for localities, including Lai Chau, to strengthen cooperation in the coming time.

She also hoped that the embassy would pay attention to support the implementation of the internship program in the agricultural field for local workers, creating conditions for them to have access to Israeli smart agricultural technologies and models.
