23,000 trees planted for a greener Hoa Binh

The Embassy of Israel, in partnership with the Central Youth Union, in December 2021 presented 23,000 cash crops to the farmers of the rural Bac Phong commune, Cao Phong district, of Hoa Binh province. The medium and long-term trees of michelia, acacia, and chukrasia covered the once-empty hills of the poverty-clad villages with green.

The 14 households that received the trees were in the designated especially tough minor-ethnic area. All staff of the Israeli Embassy were joined by 20 local Youth Union members, together with Hoa Binh’s leadership, to plant trees on the donation day. Israel is a country traditionally deprived of lush greenery and water, and the activity reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to rise above difficulties to contribute to a better environment and livelihood.

The Israeli volunteer organization “Heroes for Life”, along with the Israeli Embassy, brightened the day of children in primary schools of Sa Pa town with their English teaching, extracurricular activities, and school repainting every year since 2019. Around 20 young men and women had finished mandatory military service in Israel and wished to inspire to the kids in places where they would return every year to continue their voluntary deeds.

On each occasion, more than 1000 local pupils enjoyed interactive classes on basic geography, maths, and history in English alongside singing, traditional games, and human puzzles. The children, many of whom are of ethnic minorities, expressed happiness and energy brought by the Israeli “heroes.”

Awareness raised on cyber bullying

Cyberbullying poses a serious threat to the well-being and mental health of its victims and has become a global phenomenon in recent years. Israeli expert Doron Herman addressed the matter in a seminar co-hosted by the Embassy of Israel and the Vietnamese Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Socials Affairs in July 2023.

Israeli experience in anti-cyberbullying through initiatives and model management presented by Herman aimed to solidify the cyberbullying agenda of local authorities and raise awareness of the need to tackle the threat. Among them are a UN-approved resolution on cyberbullying submitted by Israel, and Israel’s inter-ministerial hotline on cyberbullying. Innovative solutions and technological tools were also introduced in effective measures

Donation of libraries to remote schools in Ha Giang and Lai Chau

The Embassy of Israel and 2017 Miss Universe Vietnam H’Hen Nie in 2022 opened four free and accessible libraries for primary schools in Bac Me and Meo Vac districts of Ha Giang, and in Than Uyen and Phong Tho districts of Lai Chau. The child-friendly library project was based on the Israeli “Room to Read” model, where students have a friendly reading environment, and high-quality reading materials suitable for different age groups.

In accordance with the skills this project seeks to develop, they were encouraged by trained staff to practice reading both at school and at home. Additionally, representatives of the school board, teachers, and staff joined a training course on library management. The libraries were established with brand-new children's books and reading room facilities. In Than Uyen, it was made into a container reading space in cooperation with the Israeli shipping company ZIM. The program is hoped to promote sustainable reading and a reading culture in mountainous areas.
