The Khmer-Vietnamese Association in Cambodia was urged to step up the work and call on people to adhere to regulations and nurture the Vietnam-Cambodia ties in the coming time.

The Khmer-Vietnamese Association in Cambodia recently held the third congress for the 2021-26 term in Phnom Penh on April 9.

Attending the event were the Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Huy Tang and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, consulates general, some localities, and representatives from branches.

According to the summary report of activities for the 2016-2021 term, the association's Executive Board and its affiliates have made great efforts to overcome many difficulties to implement the objectives set out during the term; thereby, helping people in the Vietnamese community improve their lives, excel in business and study, and contribute to building the local society.

Particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Khmer-Vietnamese Association worked with its chapters, the Embassy of Vietnam and localities to help Cambodians of Vietnamese origin get vaccinations and distribute supplies and aid packages to pandemic-hit families.

Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Huy Tang hailed the contributions of the Khmer-Vietnamese Association in protecting the legal rights of its members, as well as intervening and helping people of Vietnamese origin in difficult circumstances, contributing to arousing and promoting the tradition of kindness, taking care of each other in the community, preserve the national culture, look towards the homeland.

He suggested that the association's leadership should pay more attention to building a team of qualified, ethical, and dedicated staff and members; strengthen relations with local authorities to continue to receive support and help for people. In particular, the ambassador encouraged people to study, and improve their skills for a better, more sustainable, and long-term livelihood.

“It is necessary to continue promoting the work of information and education so that people can raise their awareness, have a change in their lifestyles, ways of thinking and doing, have aspirations, and actively rise to master their lives. At the same time, mobilizing people to understand and strictly abide by the laws of Cambodia; actively contribute to the cultivation of Cambodia-Vietnam relations," emphasized Ambassador Nguyen Huy Tang.

An 85-member executive board was also elected, led by reelected President Chau Van Chi, during the event.
