Loc Yen: Quang Nam's Ancient Village in Lush Countryside

Loc Yen ancient village, which is located about 40 km from Quang Nam province to the Southwest. The village has a total area of 279 hectares, with the houses leaning against the back of the mountain, and facing the rice fields in the front. In September 2019, Loc Yen was voted as National Monument and is considered as one of the most beautiful ancient villages in Vietnam.
According to the elders of the village, Loc Yen ancient village was built and developed in the 15 – 16 century. After many years, it was officially named “Loc Yen village”.

The village was formed with wooden houses, stone alleys, and beautiful fruit gardens. Even though it has been through all the hardships and turning points of history, the name “Loc Yen” is still kept to this day.

Years and time have passed by, and the village grew older, but the beauty in culture, architecture, and lifestyle of it still remains strong. At the moment, eight houses with the age of 100 – 150 years old are still preserved in Loc Yen.
Most of the houses in Loc Yen village in Quang Nam are built with their backs against the mountain, and their fronts face the fields, creating a beautiful location in terms of feng shui and aesthetic factors.

Tourists coming to Loc Yen enjoy walking along the old path in the village, watching the beautiful green fields or visiting the crystal clear rivers, breathing in the fresh air of the countryside.
The combination between the old houses, stone alleys, green gardens, rice fields, and the small slithering path creates a familiar, warm, and gentle feeling for everyone who first visits the village. The ingenuity and sophistication in the layout of the population of old houses make Loc Yen as beautiful and poetic as a charming picture.

Through many generations, the owners of these houses are still able to keep their traditions in their lifestyle. Thus, it helps create the peacefulness, simplicity, and tranquility of the atmosphere that touches tourists’ souls, who are looking for an escape route from the busy life and learn more about Vietnamese culture.
Loc Yen village is the most beautiful in the spring when the roofs of the houses and alleys are covered in soft green mosses, and the flowers bloom, bringing a sweet, lovely smell in the air.
