Long An International Port Signs MoU with California’s Port of Oakland

The MoU was reached as part of a visit by a delegation from California, including representatives from the San Francisco Bay Area Council and the Vietnamese-American Business Association (VABA), led by Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao, according to VnEconomy.
Under the document, the two sides will cooperate closely in port operations, including sharing experience in port management and operations, strengthening ties to develop the market and increase the volume of transshipment goods, and supporting parties to connect importers and exporters, thereby enhancing trade links between enterprises in Long An province and California in particular and Vietnam and the US in general.
At a working session with local leaders, Thao hoped that via the visit, the delegation will learn about the local business environment and further enhance cooperation between the two localities, especially between the Port of Oakland and Long An International Port, VietnamPlus reported.
Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Nguyen Van Duoc said since the establishment of Vietnam-US diplomatic ties on July 12, 1995 and the bilateral comprehensive partnership on July 25, 2013, the two countries have built a partnership and friendly relationship based on shared interests, mutual respect and people-to-people ties.

Welcoming the delegation, he said their visit reflects the trust that the US partners place on Long An, viewing it as a safe, stable and thriving investment destination.
Long An wishes to continue expanding a sustainable cooperative relationship with US investors, he said.
According to the website of Long An International Port, Long An it is an important gateway connecting Ho Chi Minh City and the southeast region with the Mekong Delta. Thanks to this strategic location, Long An easily resonates with the spread of industrial and urban development of HCM City.

The US is ranked sixth among approximately 40 countries and territories investing in Long An, with 23 projects worth over $484 million USD, accounting for 4.6% of FDI capital into the province. The US projects in Long An mainly operate in the fields of environment, packaging production, pharmaceuticals, toys, apparel, and factory leasing.
Port of Oakland is one of the largest international ports in the world. This cooperation agreement aims to contribute to improvements in the operations and handling capacity at Long An International Port.
Long An International Port is currently one of the largest ports in Vietnam, invested by Dongtam Group. The port has an area of 147 hectares and officially connected its seven berths on June 24, 2023, with a continuous berth length of 1,670m. In the next phase of development, Long An International Port will carry out procedures to expand its scale to nine berths. When completed, the port will have a continuous berth length of 2,368m and will have the longest continuous berth length in Vietnam, receiving ships of up to 100,000 DWT with an operating capacity of 3,000,000 TEU./.
