Siu Quy, steering vice chairman of the HCM City Fine Arts Association, the exhibition’s organiser, said: “On display are the results of creative camps that the association launched at the beginning of this year.”
The exhibits include 177 paintings, 44 graphic works and 60 sculptures by 164 members of the association and 68 non-members.
The works are in various media, including oil, watercolour, silk, lacquer, wood, cooper and ceramic.
They reflect a wide range of topics, covering the country’s landscapes, culture, people and daily life.
They also feature the development of HCM City over the years, and the task of protecting the nation’s seas and islands.
The association has given prizes to the top works, many of which feature peaceful life in modern society.
These include Ben Thuyen (Wharf), an oil painting by Pham Dinh Tuan; Binh Yen (Peace), a lacquer painting by Nguyen Quoc Nam; Diem Tua (Fulcrum), a stone sculpture by Pham Nguyen Quoc Huy, and Pho Day (City of Wire), a sculpture made of iron by Tran Viet Ha.
“The exhibition has quality art works, most of them productions of young people. We highly appreciate their efforts and will continue to encourage and support young talents,” Quy said.
The exhibition will be open to the public at 97A Pho Duc Chinh Street in District 1 until August 30.
A painting exhibition kicked off on August 20 in Hanoi, as part of activities to mark the 73rd anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19) and National Day.
Tran Khanh Chuong, President of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association, said his association received 2,500 works by 1,828 painters for the exhibition – of which 1,345 were selected for display at the eight regional exhibitions.
The Hanoi exhibition showcased 120 paintings in different materials – such as oil, lacquer, silk, and acrylic – by 124 artists, he added.
The event will last until August 30, 2018 at the Exhibition House, 16 Ngo Quyen Street./.
