Vice Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai received Chairman of the Republic of Korea (RoK) – Vietnam Friendship Association Lee Shin-jae in Hanoi on March 2, VNA reported.

Hai affirmed that the Korean delegation's visit was of significance as Vietnam and the RoK celebrated the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties and upgraded their ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership last year.

With similarities in history and culture, Vietnam and the RoK have shared strategic benefits and become top important partners of each other. At present, a large number of Korean companies have been investing in Vietnam in various fields from heavy industry to electronics and textiles, he said.

Apart from addressing employment in the textile industry, Hai suggested the RoK help promote the development of the industry towards comprehensive development of the supporting industry linked to fashion and the international market.

The friendly ties between Vietnam and the RoK date back to many centuries ago. Through ups and downs in history, Vietnam and the RoK officially established their diplomatic ties on December 22, 1992, opening up a new chapter in their relationship.

At present, the RoK is ranking first among foreign investors in Vietnam with total capital reaching USD 80.5 billion; second in terms of development cooperation, tourism, and labour; and third in terms of trade with revenue hitting USD 88 billion in 2022. About 8,000 Korean enterprises are operating in Vietnam.

About 70 pairs of localities have established cooperative ties while nearly 2,000 flights per month connect the two countries’ localities. Korean cultural, art, film, food, and fashion programmes are very popular in Vietnam. The Vietnamese cuisine and culture are also becoming wider known in the RoK.

Meanwhile, some 200,000 citizens of each country are living in the other country, including about 80,000 multicultural families.

Last year, Vietnam sent nearly 9,000 workers to the RoK under the EPS programme, out of 70,000 set for 16 selected countries.

Head of the Employment Permit System (EPS) Vietnam Office in the RoK Pham Minh Duc said up to 10,000 Vietnamese guest workers are expected to be sent to the RoK this year.
