New Book Highlights Vietnam's Work With Asian-African-Latin American Communities

The book has nearly 300 pages and is written in both Vietnamese and English. It highlights the journey and contributions of the Viet Nam Committee for Asian-African-Latin American Solidarity and Cooperation to the goals of peace, solidarity, friendship, national independence, and progress in social affairs and sustainable development in the Asia-Africa-Latin America region in particular and the world in general.

Vietnam Reunification Through the Lenses of Latin American Friends

The Viet Nam Committee for Asian-African-Latin American Solidarity and Cooperation held a talk show to launch the book named "Vietnam Committee for Asia-Africa-Latin America Solidarity and Cooperation: Journeys & Friends" on June 12, 2024. This is one of the initiatives celebrating the 50th anniversary of the unification, innovation, and development of Vietnam (1975-2025), significant holidays in 2024 and 2025, and the 70th anniversary of the Committee’s establishment (October 19, 1956 - October 19, 2026).

The talk show was attended by representatives of Vietnamese departments, ministries, branches, and agencies; leaders of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations, and member organizations.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen The Ky, former Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Central Council for the Theory and Criticism of Literature and the Arts, and Chairman of the Viet Nam Committee for Asian-African-Latin American Solidarity and Cooperation began the talk show by reviewing the Committee's formation and development over nearly 70 years. Simultaneously, he emphasized that the Committee's formation and growth were closely related to the successful development of the people's movement of Asian-African-Latin American countries to fight for national rights and democracy in the latter half of the twentieth century.

Over nearly 70 years of formation and development, the Committee has made significant contributions to the struggle for national liberation, national unification, and the construction and protection of Vietnam, thereby strengthening the friendship, solidarity, and cooperation between Vietnamese people and people of Asian, African, and Latin American countries. The Committee has actively mobilized and taken advantage of the sympathy, support, and assistance in many aspects of the people of Asian-African-Latin American countries in particular, and the people of the world in general, to Vietnam, thereby strengthening its role and position, as well as Vietnam's reputation at regional and global people's forums.

Chairman Nguyen The Ky stated that the Standing Committee of the Committee headed the gathering, investigation, compilation, and publication of the book "Viet Nam Committee for Asian-African-Latin American Solidarity and Cooperation: Journeys & Friends" with the greatest respect and gratitude for the leaders and people of Asian-African-Latin American countries and generations of leaders, experts, friends, and partners of the Committee.

Former Chairman of the Committee Pham Van Chuong provided an in-depth description of the book's contents, noting that it has over 330 pages and is available in both Vietnamese and English. The book consists of six basic sections, in which Chapter I describes the Party and State of Vietnam's concepts, policies, and attitudes on national and international solidarity. The autobiography "Family, Friends, and Country" by former Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and Vice Chairwoman of the Afro-Asian Peoples' Solidarity Organization (AAPSO) Nguyen Thi Binh, is highlighted in this section.

The process of the Vietnam Committee for Asia-Africa-Latin America Solidarity and Cooperation's formation, operation, and development is covered in Chapter II; national and interregional organizations committed to this solidarity are covered in Chapter III; Vietnam-Africa Cooperation through the ages is covered in Chapter IV; and the leaders and notable individuals of the Committee are introduced in Chapters V and VI.

Former Chairman Pham Van Chuong suggested that as readers turn the pages of the book, they can discover more about the remarkable effort and founding history of the AAPSO and the Vietnam Committee for Asia-Africa-Latin America Solidarity and Cooperation.

]Additionally, the work features vibrant and impassioned foreign activists such as Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, revolutionary Che Guevara, Moroccan Ben Barka, Cuban President Fidel Castro, and a Venezuelan guerrilla organization that kidnaps Americans to assist Vietnam in rescuing Vietnamese hero Nguyen Van Troi.

"The book describes our previous journeys with our former friends. However, the Committee's mission of promoting unity and collaboration persists. In the coming time, the Committee may face several difficulties, as well as new roads that hold enormous promise for success. However, 'there will be many new "friends" together with the old "friends," shared Chuong.

During the seminar discussion, delegates appreciated the book's collection and publication process. According to the feedback, the book highlights the Committee's remarkable journeys, devoted international friends, and contributions to national independence, peace, solidarity, friendship, social progress, and sustainable development in the Asia-Africa-Latin America region in particular, and the global community in general.

Many delegates stated that the book has historical, cultural, and educational importance not just for the current generation, but also for future generations, helping the next generation reflect on the heroic past, encouraging successes and useful lessons for the future.
