Vietnam Committee for Asian-African-Latin America Solidarity and Cooperation Sets Out New Direction

On December 17, the Vietnam Committee for Asian-African-Latin America Solidarity and Cooperation held its 7th Congress for the term 2021-2026 to review its activities for the 2013-2021 term, discuss the direction of activities in the coming time, elect the Presidium and the Inspection Committee for the term 2021-2026.
Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga, president of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO), representatives of the Central Propaganda and Training Commission, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, and a number of member organizations of VUFO attended the congress.
Efforts to cultivate solidarity and friendship
Dong Huy Cuong, director general of the VUFO's Multilateral Affairs Department, said: For the 2013-2021 term, the Committee has participated in a number of people-to-people diplomacy activities in the country, in the region and the world to promote national interests, protect the image and enhance the position and role of Vietnam.
At the same time, it contributes to the general movement of the world's people for progress, social justice and sustainable development.

“Members of the Committee are always active, flexible, participate in many activities, mobilize international friends to have a voice to support Vietnam in issues of Agent Orange, democracy, human rights, and contribute to the resolution of common problems.
The participation of the Committee has also contributed to VUFO in strengthening international solidarity and cooperation between the Vietnamese people and the people of other countries," said Dong Huy Cuong.
Promoting the achieved results, in the term 2021-2026, the Committee will continue to participate in people-to-people diplomacy activities to understand the political, economic and social situation, policies, foreign policy of the country. In addition, the Committee exchanged experiences, participated in advocating for the enhancement of friendly relations, mutual understanding and promotion of cooperation between the peoples of the countries and the people of Vietnam.
Expanding cooperation
Attending and speaking at the Congress, VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga expressed agreement with the Committee's Draft Summary Report for the 2013-2021 term, and operational orientation for the 2021-2026 term.

According to Nguyen Phuong Nga, in the context of the domestic and international situation, the new tasks of foreign affairs are posing new requirements for innovation in thinking, scope of activities, contents and methods of conducting people-to-people diplomacy.
“The current people-to-people diplomacy activities are not only limited to the inherent traditional framework, but also expand to other fields such as culture, art, education, training, and research to take advantage of resources to serve for national development goals. Friendship must be concretized by cooperative activities and bring practical results,” said President Nguyen Phuong Nga.

Sharing successful lessons from "associating national interests with the common interests of the world's peopl," VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga wished that the Presidium of the Committee for the 2021-2026 term would find out similarities and "common interests" to both protect and promote national interests.
At the same time, the Committee will participate, make contributions to the settlement of common problems of the people's solidarity movement in Asia-Africa-Latin America and the world.
VUFO President also congratulated Nguyen The Ky on being elected as president of the Committee for the term 2021 - 2026, and the Standing Committee and Presidium of the Committee for the new term.
At the same time, she expressed her belief that for the 2021-2026 term, the Committee would achieve new achievements in promoting the friendship, solidarity and cooperation between the Vietnamese people and the peoples of countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America, contributing to the cause of national construction and development.
