Opportunity for Vietnam to Assert its Role at Multilateral Forums
International experts affirmed that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's trip to attend the WEF Conference is to emphasize Vietnam’s contribution and role at multilateral forums.
Thomas Gass, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Swiss Federation in Vietnam, said: "It is very meaningful that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will participate in the WEF Davos Conference in 2024".
Swiss Ambassador expressed his impression of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's remarks at the 14th Annual Meeting of New Leaders of the WEF taking place from 27-29/6/2023 in Tianjin, China. Accordingly, the Prime Minister mentioned that in the face of "headwinds", the international community needs "global solidarity and multilateralism as well as a people-centered approach."
"The leader of Vietnam can completely confidently speak at this WEF Davos 2024 Conference because Vietnam has made significant contributions to solving many global problems and deserves to be recognized by the international community for those great efforts," said Ambassador Thomas Gass.
According to the Swiss Ambassador, as an active member of ASEAN, Vietnam has played an important role in promoting regional stability and cooperation. Vietnam also participates in peacekeeping operations around the world, including South Sudan and the Central African Republic.

Vietnam has also taken some important steps to reduce carbon emissions, with a commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Vietnam strives to increase its resilience to climate change by implementing the National Plan to adapt to climate change and various measures to protect vulnerable communities. Additionally, Vietnam is also making efforts to improve energy security by investing in renewable energy sources, such as solar energy and wind energy.
"Therefore, this year's forum will provide Vietnam with a great opportunity to demonstrate its commitment to concrete solutions and win the support of the investor community for its great efforts," Mr. Thomas Gass emphasized.
According to Philipp Rösler, former Deputy Prime Minister of Germany and Vietnam's first Honorary Consul in Switzerland, Vietnam has made clear contributions at multilateral forums in recent times.
"Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh leading a high-level delegation, including many business representatives, to attend the upcoming WEF Annual Conference in Davos is an important milestone. The delegation's activities will be another success in the series of outstanding foreign affairs events of Vietnam in recent times. With these movements, Vietnam proves to international friends that it is a country with strengths in future-oriented economic plans, with a strong focus on sustainable growth and digitalization, in all industries from food, agriculture, manufacturing to services and digital solutions."
Ivo Sieber, former Swiss Ambassador to Vietnam, expected that the upcoming business trip of the delegation led by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh would be an opportunity further to promote Vietnam's image in the international arena.
Meanwhile, Ewald Beivi, an official in charge of business relations and development at the University of Zurich, said that the conference in Davos is an opportunity for leaders of countries, corporations, and organizations to meet, exchange perspectives and develop action plans.
“The WEF conference in Davos is a great opportunity for Vietnam to seek new ideas and learn about new trends. It's important to be there to listen and connect. It can be said that if you do not keep up with the new trends of the times, you will be at a disadvantage in today's global competition," said Ewald Beivi.
The annual World Economic Forum 2024 (WEF 2024) will take place from January 15-19, 2024, in the famous Swiss town of Davos. With the theme "Rebuilding Trust," WEF 2024 focuses on exchanging and proposing solutions to 4 groups of issues including promoting security and mutually beneficial cooperation in a fragmented world; developing economic policies suitable for the new era; long-term strategy for climate, nature, and energy; artificial intelligence as a driving force for economic and social development. WEF 2024 plans to gather many of the world's leading names for dialogue and cooperation meetings to address many urgent global issues, including economic growth, action on climate and nature, energy security, technology governance, and human development.
