In a dignified and sacred atmosphere, the ceremonies for fallen heroes held by Vietnamese communities in Germany and Japan echoed Uncle Ho's advice "The Hung Kings had merits to build the country, Uncle and grandson must protect the country together".

The ceremony in Germany was held at Vinh Nghiem Nürnberg Temple on April 10.

Participants prayed for the 64 fallen soldiers on March 14, 1988 on Gac Ma Island who fought to the last breath to protect the border and islands of the country.

Attending the event in Germany, Mr. Van Muoi, President of the Franken Vietnamese Buddhist Cultural Center in Nuremberg city, expressed his gratitude for the national heroes: "The late soldier's courageous examples in defending the country's sovereignty will forever remain an imprint in the hearts of every Vietnamese person, even if far away from the Fatherland.

Venerable Thich Thong Dat, along with Buddhists and other participants, offered prayers and candles to the heroic spirits of martyrs.

"On the occasion of the death anniversary of the ancestors, all together remember the grace of Hung King who enlightened Vietnam and at the same time pray for the martyrs who died for the longevity of the Fatherland. Remained in the hearts of Buddhists and overseas Vietnamese are all heroes and martyrs from ancient times. Despite being in exile, overseas Vietnamese are always on the lookout for their motherland with warmest affection.

The representative of the Vietnamese Association in Munich Dinh Van Hung is deeply moved by the ceremony. Like Mr. Hung, many overseas Vietnamese expressed their gratitude towards Vinh Nghiem Nürnberg Temple for it has always maintained national cultural activities.

On such a special occasion, Buddhists and overseas Vietnamese came to the temple and filled their hearts with the love for the homeland. Thereby, the overseas communities became more determined to devote to the development of the Fatherland.

Also on April 10, Dai An Honjo Temple (Japan) held a ceremony to pray and offer candles in gratitude and remembrance of the honor soldiers who heroically sacrificed themselves in the battle of Gac Ma (the Truong Sa archipelago) on March 14, 1988.

The prayers also went out for the victims of the Covid-19 epidemic and the Vietnamese souls who unfortunately passed away because of national disasters in Japan.

Speaking at the ceremony, Nun Thich Tam Tri, President of the Vietnamese Buddhist Association in Japan prayed that the fallen heroes and martyrs rest in peace, that their images blending in with the mountains and rivers will live forever.

She suggested that Buddhists and overseas Vietnamese learn the virtues of love, compassion, and harmony; together, they support each other to build an increasingly united and growing community and contribute to the construction of the country's homeland.

Nun Thich Tam Tri said: “In the hearts of Buddhists, everyone remembers the homeland dearly, remembers the death anniversary of the ancestors and those who sacrificed to protect the beloved Fatherland. The pandemic also caused irreparable losses and many unfortunate deaths. Let's pray for all incense souls to soon be born in the pure land."
