On July 19, in Hanoi, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front held a meeting for 120 young overseas Vietnamese from more than 20 countries who returning home to attend the Vietnam Summer Camp 2023.

Promote activities of overseas youth

Speaking at the meeting, Mai Phan Dung, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, said Vietnam Summer Camp is a meaningful activity for overseas Vietnamese youth, an opportunity for young people to experience life in Vietnam and learn about the nation's cultural traditions and history.

Vietnam Summer Camp 2023 brings together 120 students from more than 20 countries. They are young people with outstanding achievements in study, community service, and extra curriculums activities toward their homeland. The program lasts two weeks and goes through 10 provinces in Vietnam. During this time, they will learn about Vietnamese culture, history, country, and people. Through those practical experiences, children can better understand, love, and stay close to their homeland.

Hoang Cong Thuy - Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front said that overseas Vietnamese students are the future of the Viet expat community, the foundation of the country's traditional great solidarity in the current period.

Hoang Cong Thuy highly appreciates the activity, which encourages the young people to look towards their fatherland and creates connections between the overseas community and Vietnamese living in the homeland so that they can learn about political, social, cultural, and historical issues, the country's natural landscape, to interact with the young generation in the country, contributing to the implementation of the Party and State's guidelines and policies for the work of overseas Vietnamese in the new situation.

“I hope that you will have a lot of memorable experiences when joining the camp. When you leave Vietnam, I hope you bring the impression of a journey full of fond memories of your roots. I believe that after this trip you will have a better understanding of the historical traditions, national cultural identity, the current renovation work, as well as the guidelines and policies of the Party and State towards overseas Vietnamese. I hope you promote the activities of the youth movement, connect and coordinate with young people and students in the country to form a network of mutual support in life, study, work and always look to the homeland. I hope you try to preserve the national cultural identity; learn and retain Vietnamese”, said Hoang Cong Thuy.

Appreciate the chance to return to the homeland

At the meeting, the young expatriates shared their feelings when representing the young generation abroad to return to their homeland. Tran Ha Phuong, 16 years old, living in Vientiane, Laos, said that although it was only her second day at the Vietnam Summer Camp, she had made acquaintance with some young Vietnamese from all over the world.

“Before going back to Vietnam to participate in this program, I was a little nervous and worried. Those worries completely disappeared on the first day I stepped into the house of the summer camp. We are like brothers and sisters gathering home after years of going away," Tran Ha Phuong said.

Appreciating the chance to join the summer camp, Ha Phuong told herself that she needed to continue to study harder to contribute to the community and her beloved homeland. She also hopes to have more forums for overseas students to return to their homeland, and interact with and learn from young Vietnamese at home and abroad, thereby they can building a richer and more beautiful country together.

According to Tran Ha Phuong, many Vietnamese language classes and libraries can be found in Laos. However, the libraries are sketchy in both quantity and diversity. Therefore, Ha Phuong wishes to have more Vietnamese books.

According to the young delegate, there should be more programs for the young talents to contribute to the economic development of Vietnam, such as giving them the opportunity to be investors, to make financial contributions to small economic projects of Vietnamese youth, so that they can accompany the economic development in the country. For example, a young economic project will need to be set up with a certain amount of capital, and many young people abroad can join hands to provide such capital.

Meanwhile, Bui Van Dung, a 16-year-old living in Russia expressed his excitement when returning home to participate in the Vietnam Summer Camp. He said that when going back to Russia, he would spread things he had experienced and witnessed so that the young Vietnamese in Russia can better understand and love their compatriots and homeland.
