According to the Italian Embassy in Hanoi, the Italian Design Day was originally launched back in 2017 by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and is held in more than 100 cities around the world. This year, the special exhibition "Everything is Illuminated" brought a collection of famous urban heritage lighting designs to Hanoian viewers.
Notably, the exhibition is among the activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Italy (March 23, 1973-2023).

The exhibition featured dozens photographs by 6 Italian artists; Alessandra Baldoni, Luca Gilli, Cosmo Laera, Luca Marianaccio, Lucrezia Roda and Pio Tanrantini. Their works opened a gateway to historical and modern monuments, in which bright integrated lighting or telecommunications systems are utilized to bring out the beauty of urban architect. As a result, the exhibition has become a visual journey through history and art.

One of the oldest architect in Italy is Archaeological Park of Canne della Battaglia. This is a popular historic site since the 5th century, completely covered with precious mosaics. In modern day's conditions, the site can be admired at nighttime, thanks to the illumination system.
The famous 13th-century fortress of Castel del Monte built by Emperor Frederick II was also captured being lit up during the nights. This important architect is where scholars can study astrological complexes combined with refined mathematical, geometrical and astronomical knowledge.

Looking to the future without forgetting its precious historical roots, this year's Italian Design Day brought the Hanoian many examples of how Italy preserves and honors its architect heritage in a creative approach.

The photographs being showcased at the exhibition also help create a new beauty from a traditional visions deeply rooted in the history of Italy, making it accessible for today's audiences.

Another highlight of the exhibition is two displays of showing iconic historical and contemporary urban sites of Vietnam with the lighting studio workshopped by DZ Engineering Group. In these panels, Khue Van Pavillion and the Imperial Citadel appeared to be intervened through innovative lighting systems.

Together with the exhibition "Everything is Illuminated" at Casa Italia (Hoan Kiem, Hanoi), a seminar was held on Mar 9 at the Hanoi University of Civil Engineering (HUCE). This seminar welcomed General Manager of DZ Engineering and Ambassador of Italian Design to Vietnam for 2023 Roberto Grilli as the special guest speaker, also UNESCO Representative to Vietnam Christian Manhart. At the event, HUCE students and professors learned about the history of Italian Design Day and the importance of artificial lighting in urban environment and for the valorization of historical sites. |
