The Vietnam National Day at World Expo 2020 Dubai officially opened on Dec. 30 with a flag-raising ceremony, VNA reported Friday.
Addressing the event, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong said that by joining the expo, Vietnam aimed to introduce the image of a dynamic country and get closer to 191 participating countries in the world.
At the ceremony, participants enjoyed a Vietnamese traditional art performance show.

Senior officials of Vietnam and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the UAE Ministry of Culture and Youth, and another MoU on cooperation between the International Cooperation Department under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and ITL World on promoting Vietnam’s culture and tourism in the Middle East.

The same day, a business exchange themed “Vietnam: The Land of Opportunity” was organised with the participation of leaders of various sectors of Vietnam, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry as well as Vietnamese and foreign businesses.
Along with providing information about Vietnam’s socio-economic situation and investment opportunities, the event also gave a chance for businesses to meet and seek partners.

Within the framework of the Vietnam National Day, “The Eternal Flow” programme was held, featuring about 150 Vietnamese and foreign artists, along with a Vietnamese Film Week, as well a painting exhibition featuring works by child prodigy Xeo Chu, and a Vietnamese coffee week.
The film week, is organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) in coordination with the Department of International Cooperation, Department of Cinema, Vietnam Association for Cinema Promotion and Development, Netflix, Inc. and some Vietnamese film enterprises.
The films to be shown include Bo Gia (Dad, I’m sorry), Hai Phuong (Furie), Cha Cong Con (Father and son), Mat Biec (Dreamy Eyes), Cuoc Doi Cua Yen (Yen’s life), Co Ba Sai Gon (The Tailor), and Hoa Vang Tren Co Xanh (Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass).
Of these, Mat Biec and Bo Gia won the Golden and Silver Lotus Award at the 22nd Vietnam Film Festival.
Nguyen Phuong Hoa, director general of the Department of International Cooperation under the MCST, said the screening of these films will help elevate the image of Vietnam – a peaceful and dynamic country that attaches great importance to preserving the national identity and upholding the values of humanity.
Vietnamese films will be screened with both English and Arabic subtitles.

Themed ‘Distilling the Past, Shaping the Future’, the Vietnam pavilion is located in the ‘Opportunity’ themed area with a total area of 850sq.m spread over three floors, two of which are for exhibition activities. The third floor is being used as a VIP and office area.
The first floor of the pavilion includes a 10-screen area with an introduction revealing 10 things visitors should know about Vietnam; a cultural-traditional area with ancient bronze drums, a dragon head of the Ly Dynasty, a statue of Quan Am Buddha, water puppetry, traditional musical instruments, national costumes, a panorama screen showing stories about history and famous landmarks, a science and technology area displaying ‘Make-in-Vietnam’ products, and a tourist discovery area with touch screens and 3D displays.
The second floor focuses on introducing Vietnamese quintessential products, national brands, agricultural exports, Vietnamese coffee culture, a circular economy model in coffee production, and Vietnamese marine farming technology.
With a history of 170 years, the World Expo is among the world’s oldest and largest events, only after the Olympic Games and FIFA World Cup. It has provided a platform to showcase the greatest innovations that have shaped the world today. Expo 2020 will continue that tradition with the latest technology from around the globe.
The Expo 2020 Dubai will last until March 31, 2022, attracting more than 190 countries and international organisations. It is expected to welcome 25 million visitors.
