Polish Friends Share Memories about Geneva Accords

The Vietnamese Embassy in Poland on May 6 held a seminar themed "Imprints of the Geneva Accords and Vietnam in the Memory of Polish Friends."

Attending the program were guests including Franciszek Zwierzynski, who was directly present in Vietnam from 1954-1955, as a member of the Polish delegation to the International Committee to monitor the armistice in Vietnam; Colonel Waldemar Wojtan, Vice President of the Association of Polish Soldiers who participated in United Nations peacekeeping; Professor Tadeusz Iwinski, the next Chairman of the Poland-Vietnam Friendship Association; Dr. Jarema Slowiak, Institute of Historical Research, Krakow University.

In addition, attending the program were representatives of a number of Vietnamese associations, the Veterans Club and all officers and employees of the Vietnamese Embassy in Poland.

Speaking at the opening of the program, Ambassador Ha Hoang Hai expressed his gratitude for Poland being one of three members assigned by the Geneva Conference to come to Vietnam to supervise the implementation of the Accords. Poland's role as a messenger has contributed to promoting peace for Indochina countries, including Vietnam.

The diplomat said that the Vietnamese people's stubborn will to expel foreign invaders, as well as contributions to peacekeeping like Poland did to the Geneva Accords, demonstrate Vietnam's desire for peace and independence around the world, while still has topical significance, especially in today's complex and challenging international context.

Within the framework of the program, the guests, Polish friends, spoke, expressed their thoughts, as well as exchanged and answered questions from attendees about the Geneva Accords and Vietnam.

Franciszek Zwierzynski expressed his feelings and good impressions of the country and people of Vietnam, as well as the honor of being there to perform his duties. The good feelings during his time in Vietnam inspired him, after returning to Poland, to write a book titled 'My Vietnam'.

He also expressed his joy for Vietnam's socio-economic development and wished the best for the people of the S-shaped nation.

Colonel Waldemar Wojtan introduced the activities of the Association of Polish Soldiers who participated in UN peacekeeping, expressing pride in the fact that Poland participated both times in the Armistice Monitoring Committee in Vietnam.

Professor Tadeusz Iwinski highly appreciated the resilient will and indomitable spirit of the Vietnamese people, affirming that in his future position as Chairman of the Poland-Vietnam Friendship Association, he will continue to contribute more to promote bilateral relations.

Dr. Jarema Slowiak shared some scientific research and historical milestones related to the Geneva Accords and affirmed Poland's support, contributions, and sincere feelings for the peace process in Indochina and Vietnam.
