Politburo member Truong Thi Mai extends greetings to Catholics on Easter

Politburo member, Secretary of Party Central Committee (PCC) and Head of the PCC’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation Truong Thi Mai on April 16 extended greetings to Catholic dignitaries and followers in Hue on the occasion of the 2017 Easter holiday.

During her visit to Archbishop of the Hue Diocese Nguyen Chi Linh, who is also President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Vietnam, the official recognised and praised the role of Archbishop Nguyen Chi Linh in calling on and directing local parishioners to work closely with the municipal authorities, and people from all walks of life to promote the country’s socio-economic development.

Meanwhile, she reiterated the consistent policy of the Party and State in respecting and ensuring the legitimate rights of people in terms of freedom of belief and religion.

The PCC Secretary expressed her hope that the Archdiocese along with other Catholic dignitaries and followers will continue participating in patriotic movements, thus actively contributing to the nation’s development.

Archbishop Nguyen Chi Linh promised to continuously encourage parishioners to abide by legal regulations, and join hands in consolidating the national great unity bloc.

On the same day, Politburo member Truong Thi Mai also visited and congratulated Most Venerable Thich Duc Thanh, who has been selected as Chairman of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Committee for the 2017-2020 tenure.

She expressed her hope that in his new position, the Most Venerable and the VBS will continue his efforts to uphold solidarity between religious groups and lead good secular and religious lives, thus contributing to building a prosperous Vietnam./.
