(VNF) - The Vietnamese Embassy in Netherlands held a ceremony to mark President Ho Chi Minh’s 127th birthday (May 19th) on May 14th.

Vietnamese Embassy staff, representatives from Vietnamese organizations, expatriates and students in Netherlands offered incense at the altar of President Ho Chi Minh at the Embassy's headquarters.

Attendees recalled the life and career of the nation’s first president through stories and a documentary film, hailing him as a shining example of virtue, national pride and wisdom, and a great source of encouragement for generations of Vietnamese.

They all agreed that President Ho Chi Minh left a large and valuable legacy and moral example, highlighting self-improvement and responsibility, that should be emulated by all Vietnamese people.

On this occasion, 17 students who had excellent academic records, have been honoured at an awards ceremony.

President Ho Chi Minh was born on May 19th, 1890 in Kim Lien Commune, Nam Dan District, the central province of Nghe An.

He devoted his life to the national liberation cause, while tirelessly striving for peace and progress in the world. He also led the nation to success in the struggle for national independence and establishing the Democratic Republic of Vietnam following the August Revolution in 1945. The president passed away in 1969./.
