President Nguyen Xuan Phuc expressed his pleasure to meet the Vietnamese community in Switzerland and acknowledged their opinions at the meeting.

He said he appreciated the role and activities of the Vietnamese community in Switzerland, contributing to maintaining and strengthening solidarity, and mutual support in the community.

The President said that for a long time, the Party and State had looked towards the overseas Vietnamese, and emphasized the recent Conclusion No. 12-KL/TW of the Central Committee on the work of overseas Vietnamese.

Accordingly, the overseas Vietnamese community is an "inseparable part" and an important resource contributing to the cause of national construction, development and defence, he said.

Speaking at the meeting, Vietnamese Ambassador to Switzerland Le Linh Lan said that it was a historic visit, demonstrating the strength of Vietnam-Switzerland relations, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and 30 years of cooperative development.

The Vietnamese community in Switzerland has nearly 10,000 people.

Ambassador Le Linh Lan said that the Vietnamese community in Switzerland gathered many prestigious scientists, entrepreneurs and intellectuals working in science and technology fields such as physics, information technology, artificial intelligence and blockchain.

In particular, the Vietnamese community in Switzerland is united and always looks towards the homeland, the country, living in friendship and harmony with the people of the host country, he said.

Luu Vinh Toan, Vietnamese Youth Association in Switzerland, expressed his desire to contribute more to the country by learning science and technology of Switzerland - the world's leading country in innovation index.

That contributes to bringing Vietnam to par with other countries in the world, especially in the field of technology; at the same time, participating in solving social problems in Vietnam such as climate change and environmental protection.

The representative of the Vietnamese community in Switzerland wishes to return to their homeland soon. The President affirmed that the country was implementing vaccinations for people, and from now until Tet, and there would be opportunities for people to return to Vietnam

The President also said he appreciated the role and activities of the Vietnamese community in Switzerland.

He said he wished that people would continue to promote the spirit of mutual support, head towards the homeland, and join hands to overcome the pandemic.

He instructed officials and employees of the Vietnamese Embassy in Switzerland to continue protecting citizens, and supporting overseas Vietnamese.

He encouraged more practical activities towards Vietnam, and more children of overseas Vietnamese families, youth and students to bring their knowledge to contribute to the construction of the homeland, thereby promoting the strength of the nation, and contributing a prosperous Vietnam.

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc awarded the Friendship Medal to the Switzerland-Vietnam Friendship Association for its outstanding contributions to the friendship between the two peoples.
