Contrary to my expectations and media portrayals of Dmitry Peskov, as a tall man with a stern expression, upon meeting him in person, I was surprised by his warmth and sincerity, said the reporter.

At the beginning of the conversation, Dmitry Peskov cheerfully and attentively asked us, "Have you been in Moscow for long? You must have had many interesting experiences in Russia, given your busy schedule?"

With just one or two simple questions, he instantly eased the tension we had felt prior to the meeting. Initially, I had thought it would be challenging to engage in a conversation with a man who regularly represents the Russian head of state, issuing firm and resolute statements to the press on matters concerning Russia's national interests.

Continuing the discussion, Peskov emphasized that Moscow highly values its relationship with Vietnam. Since 2012, bilateral ties have been elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which in itself speaks volumes. First and foremost, it signifies the deep trust between the two nations and the solid foundation of their cooperation. According to Peskov, political dialogue and international collaboration between the two countries have remained steadfast despite external pressures, as both nations uphold their sovereignty and independence to confidently advance cooperation.

President Putin’s press secretary affirmed that these commitments will continue to be strengthened. Indeed, at all levels—working-level, high-level, and the highest level—bilateral dialogue is continuously expanding. This is the key to the dynamic and high-level development of Vietnam-Russia relations.

Notably, President Putin’s state visit to Vietnam last summer underscored the strong ties between the two nations. In 2024, Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man also paid an official visit to Russia, a trip that yielded significant results and was appreciated by Moscow. On the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Kazan, President Putin held talks with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. More recently, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin made an official visit to Vietnam.

During these meetings, leaders from both countries discussed ways to resolve existing challenges in a constructive manner, working together to find common solutions. This approach has proven highly effective in fostering bilateral relations, with both sides reaffirming their political commitment to advancing dialogue.

Currently, Moscow is anticipating the visit of General Secretary To Lam to Russia in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Vietnam has always shared with Russia the historical memory and significance of this victory, a sentiment deeply appreciated by the Russian people.

The Kremlin spokesperson highlighted Vietnam’s remarkable socio-economic progress. Since 1991, Vietnam’s GDP per capita has multiplied several times over.

"This is an extraordinary leap forward. Vietnam has built entire economic sectors from scratch. The country has achieved complete self-sufficiency in agriculture and has also become a major exporter," Peskov noted.

Vietnam is now advancing its high-tech industries. Russia is pleased to collaborate with Vietnam in the development of the Nuclear Science and Technology Research Center—a large-scale project aimed at fostering a key sector, peaceful nuclear energy and nuclear research.

This project could serve as a crucial driver in propelling Vietnam to new heights of development. Russia recognizes Vietnam’s achievements and hopes to remain a key partner in economic and trade cooperation.

Although our conversation with the Kremlin spokesperson was not lengthy, his remarks carried significant expectations—particularly on how to make the Vietnam-Russia relationship more substantive and effective.
