Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh emphasized at the event that, during 75 years of growth and development, under the leadership of the Party and the direct guidance of President Ho Chi Minh, the first Foreign Minister, Vietnam's diplomacy always accompanies the nation, serves the Fatherland and the people, and plays its important role to the glorious victories in our nation's heroic history.

The diplomacy has made an important contribution for Vietnamese revolution to overcome obstacles and imprint its mark on every historic journey of the country, from contributing to win and maintain the independence of the country in the early days of the revolution, to the successful resistance war against colonialism, imperialism, the liberation of the South, the country's reunification, to the cause of building and defending the country today.

In the period of Doi Moi and extensive international integration, according to Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh, the foreign relation is to continue creating favorable international environment and conditions to promote socio-economic development, industrialization and modernization of the country, building and defending the homeland, and actively contributing to the common struggle of the world people for peace, national independence, democracy and communal progress.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh delivered a speech on the diplimacy's history over the past 75 years.

The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that diplomacy has made efforts to implement a strategic direction, actively integrating into the world; Multilateral diplomacy has matured strongly and has achieved important results, clearly confirming Vietnam as a responsible member of the international community. The diplomacy along with national defense and security have effectively contributed to firmly safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Fatherland ...

“Diplomacy has played an important role in expanding and deepening our foreign relations with other countries. Up to now, Vietnam has established diplomatic relations with 189/193 United Nations member states; established a stable and long-term relationship framework with 30 strategic and comprehensive partners, creating a solid foundation for Vietnam and other countries to enhance cooperation for the benefit of each country and for peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world”, emphasized Deputy Prime Minister.

The world is preparing to enter the third decade of the 21st century with profound, rapid and unpredictable changes, but peace, cooperation and development are still the aspirations of all peoples in the world.

However, the world is facing many challenges, especially the world economic recession, powers' strategic competition, and traditional and non-traditional security challenges such as epidemics, environment, and climate change, water security.

Under the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, changes in the international landscape were accelerated, having direct and multidimensional impacts on Vietnam's security and development environment, bringing newly interlaced opportunities and challenges.

In that new context, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh emphasized that the diplomatic sector should continue to promote its pioneering role in creating a peaceful and favorable environment for development and enhancement of the country's status. In which, it is necessary to build a modern diplomacy in terms of both forces, content and mode of operation, on the basis of inheriting Vietnam's diplomatic tradition and Ho Chi Minh's diplomatic ideology.

"At the same time, the diplomacy will actively and positively promote innovations, dynamically adapting to the rapid changes of the situation to fulfill the role set for the itself in the new period", Deputy Prime Minister said.

Diplomacy succeeds in "5 political missions"

Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that over the past five years, the diplomacy has gained important achievements, proudly contributing to the cause of national liberation and reunification in the past as well as building and defending the today country.

According to Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, in the fight against COVID-19, the diplomacy has implemented successfully "COVID diplomacy", "online diplomacy" with outstanding results that from February 2020 up to now, there have been 30 Online high-level conferences, talks of leaders of countries, major international organizations ... The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also coordinated to organize many flights to welcome return home nearly 30,000 Vietnamese citizens from countries most impacted by the Covid- 19. Foreign affairs have also promoted the "international solidarity" in epidemic prevention, and provided Made-in-Vietnam medical equipment for many countries.

For the patriotic emulation, the Diplomacy has strongly promoted the spirit of patriotic emulation, becoming a way of leading, encouraging and motivating officials to successfully complete all assigned tasks.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that, after 75 years of founding the country, 35 years of renovation and international integration, the Foreign Affairs sector has the right to be proud of its achievements but must not be subjective and complacent for the next long journey.

“Diplomatic officers need to firmly grasp and be absolutely loyal to the Party's and State's foreign policy stance on maintaining independence and autonomy, Vietnam is a friend and a reliable partner in the international community, well implementing internal solidarity, consensus, effort, ingenuity, creativity, making Vietnam develop strongly and abreast the powers in the world's five continents", Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasized.

The Prime Minister said that in the coming time, the diplomacy should further promote and continue its glorious historical achievements in maintaining a peaceful and stable environment, attracting maximum external resources, promoting internal resources, developing rapidly and sustainably, highlighting the role, position and prestige of Vietnam.

In order to succeed in the assigned responsibility, next time, the Prime Minister wants the diplomacy to succeed in the "5 political missions", besides he highly appreciates its "3 emulations".

Regarding 5 important political missions, firstly, to promote our relations with partners in depth, efficiency, stability and sustainability, always uphold the Party's foreign policy principles and guidelines as well as being flexible and skillful, increasing the intertwining of interests, the point of view, balancing relations, especially with major countries and strategic partners, comprehensive partners.

Second, strengthening economic diplomacy, making an important contribution to the recovery of socio-economic development. It is necessary to create maximum conditions to connect our localities and businesses with new partners and markets, effectively exploit opportunities and incentives from new generation FTAs, especially CPTPP, EVFTA; cooperating in attracting high-quality FDI, creating a growth engine that surpasses COVID-19 and continues to develop in the coming time.

Third, proactively integrating into the world, raising the level and promoting multilateral foreign relations in the spirit of Directive 25 of the Secretariat. “As the expectations of international friends in Vietnam are growing, we need to do better, be more flexible, and more creative to meet the trust of international friends and protect Vietnam's interests, security and development ”, said the Prime Minister.

Fourth, contributing to firmly protect the independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, islands of the country. It is a must to uphold the principle of "both cooperation and struggle", "determination and perseverance". Better researching, advising, forecasting without any being passive, unexpected. Strengthening exchanges for international friends to understand and support our righteousness and consistent views, especially on the Bien Dong Sea.

Second, emulate learning and follow the moral example of President Ho Chi Minh. "Comrades need to regularly learn from both his style, his vision, his thoughts and his daily works," said the Prime Minister.

Third, intensify the patriotic emulation of the diplomatic branches with other agencies, ministries and localities throughout the country in order to create integrated resources for the construction and defense of the country. In emulation, the most important thing is to emulate itself, each diplomatic official needs to constantly strive to cultivate and become successful.

In the event, Deputy Director of the National Border Committee Nguyen Manh Dong made a speech `` Maintaining the sovereignty of sea and islands in the new situation, '' said that defending the country's sovereignty of sea and islands is one of the most-leading important misions in the strategy of successfully building socialism and firmly protecting the Fatherland.
