Promoting Gender Equality and Sex Education for Vietnamese-Korean Youth
The Project on Sex Education and Gender Equality has 29 young Vietnamese and Korean participants |
The Sex Education and Gender Equality project was conceived based on the sustainable development goals of the United Nations, of which Vietnam and Korea are both members. Specifically, Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4) by 2030, ensures all learners gain the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development through education on sustainable lifestyles and development, human rights and gender equality. They also help promote a culture of peace and non-violence, celebrate cultural diversity and its contribution to sustainable development.
Sharing with the Vietnam Times, Sim Sang Joon, head of Korea Vietnam Culture Communication Center (KCCC), said that not only in Vietnam but also in Korea, gender inequality also occurs. On the outside, people show no gender inequality, but inside they still think that the status of men is always higher than that of women. Therefore, the project wants to awaken people's awareness of gender inequality while erasing gender inequality in their thoughts.
"We want Vietnamese and Korean children and teenagers to be the future generations of the country with a clear understanding of gender and gender equality to move towards a society where everyone has the same rights," he said.
“The center will screen the puppet play 'The fairy and the woodcutter' and give away the book 'We are all equal.' The center will also play games with the children, read stories to find out their thoughts on gender equality through stories, so that they can understand gender equality in the most basic way. In addition, the center will organize online exchanges between the children, students and volunteers in Korea," he said.Prof. Sim Sang Joon also said that currently, the product on gender and gender equality has been completed by the youth of Vietnam and Korea. It is expected that in early November, when the Covid-19 pandemic situation stabilizes, the center will promote the project at a number of schools in Hanoi.
Korea Vietnam Culture Communication Center (KCCC) is a Korean NGO that has been operating in Vietnam since 2010, focusing on implementing educational activities, community development and cultural exchange between Vietnamese and Korean students.
