Vietnam Launches Its First Gender Equality Communication Program

The program aims to achieve 100% of ministries, sectors and localities by 2025 to develop plans and implement the annual Action Month for Gender Equality and to prevent and respond to gender-based violence.
The program strives that by 2030, awareness of gender equality among target groups in the community will increase by 10-15% compared to 2025.
It also strives to achieve at least 70% of media agencies piloting by 2025 and by 2030 90% of media agencies to officially apply the Gender Indicators in the media.
By 2025, the program aims to reach 95% and by 2030 100% of community conventions that have been adopted without gender discrimination.
Every year, agencies, organizations, businesses and people are informed, disseminated and updated information on laws and policies on gender equality at least 2 times.
According to a representative of the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, communication has been identified as a key task for the implementation of laws and policies on gender equality. In addition, it is also the most important solution to raise awareness, change behavior, contribute to eliminating prejudices, and progress towards realizing substantive gender equality.
Over the years, all levels, sectors and localities have made great efforts in communicating about gender equality.
In particular, the implementation of the Action Month for Gender Equality since 2016 has created positive effects, attracting the participation of people, communities, agencies and organizations, contributing to shortening the gender gap in most fields.
The newly approved communication program will promote advantages, good and effective practices, overcome inadequacies and limitations to successfully implement the National Strategy on Gender Equality for the 2021-2030 period; National action plan to implement the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and other policies on gender equality, socio-economic development in the 2021-2030 period.

To achieve this goal, the program sets out tasks and solutions to strengthen the provision of information, dissemination of laws, policies and results of gender equality work to authorities, agencies, organizations, businesses and people.
The program organizes appropriate information and promotion activities for target groups periodically and at peak times every year.
At the same time, it also innovates in forms and means of communication, promotes the application of technology and digital platforms, and diversify types and products in communication about gender equality.
The program promotes socialization of communication work, mobilization of resources, participation and response of agencies, organizations, businesses and people.
In the plan, it expands and promotes gender equality education in families, schools and communities, and promotes children's participation. The program develops and applies Gender Indicators in communication; builds capacity for reporters, media collaborators at all levels.
One of the tasks is to strengthen communication about Vietnam's laws, policies, achievements and results on gender equality to international partners; actively fight and oppose false information about gender equality and policies of the Party and State of Vietnam.
The program aims to strengthen the inspection and supervision of promotion and dissemination of the law on gender equality, and to replicate effective gender equality communication models.
