Promoting People-to-people Diplomacy between Vietnam – US

On the morning of July 5, the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations held a ceremony to celebrate the 246th Independence Day of the United States (July 4, 1776 - July 4, 2022). The ceremony shows the solidarity and friendship between the people of the city and the people of the United States.

Nguyen Thi Ngoc Phuong, President of the Vietnam-US Friendship Association of Ho Chi Minh City, said that on July 4, 1776, the US Congress unanimously approved the Declaration of Independence, separating the colonies from Great Britain.

The Declaration's motto ​​of independence - freedom - friendship has become a universal value ​​that all countries and politics agree on, especially the principle that "All human beings are born equal. Everyone has the right to live and the right to pursue happiness.”

Referring to activities of the Vietnam-US Friendship Association of Ho Chi Minh City in promoting people-to-people diplomacy between the two countries, Phuong said that the association has collaborated with Xua va Nay magazine (Past and Present) to publish a book in English titled “200 years of Vietnam-US relations”. She also added that this is a cultural and historical work marking the good relationship between the two countries.

Marie C. Damour, Consul General of the United States in Ho Chi Minh City highly appreciated the efforts of the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnam - US Friendship Association during the past 20 years in promoting and tightening people-to-people diplomacy between the two nations.

Consul General Marie expressed her wish that in the coming time, Vietnam will continue to create favorable conditions for US businesses to invest in diverse fields such as trade and investment, education, and health care, energy. The United States and Vietnam have a common commitment to peace and security and can together work to overcome challenges and conquer the future as partners, she added.
