At the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son on November 1 received First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the RoK Chang Ho Jin on his visit to Vietnam, co-chairing the 5th Strategic Dialogue on diplomacy, security and defense at the level of Deputy Foreign Ministers.

Minister Bui Thanh Son appreciated the development of bilateral relations, especially in politics, diplomacy, trade and investment since the two countries upgraded to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2022.

The Minister suggested continuing to promote the role of the dialogue mechanism. He proposed directions for effective implementation of agreements between senior leaders of the two countries, cooperation between the two Foreign Ministries particularly, as well as exchanges on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Regarding the direction of cooperation, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son proposed that the two Foreign Ministries promote the exchange of high-level delegations and all levels, coordinate to carry out the "Action program on implementing the comprehensive strategic partnership" between the two countries.

He asked the RoK to continue supporting Vietnam in improving its law enforcement capacity at sea, programs to overcome war consequences.

The Minister also wanted that the two sides continue to cooperate closely and support each other at international and regional forums of mutual interest.

He proposed the RoK to coordinate and support Vietnam to well perform its role in coordinating ASEAN-Korea relations until 2024.

First Deputy Minister Chang Ho Jin pledged to coordinate and effectively implement the agreement reached between senior leaders of the two countries, as well as the contents of cooperation in important fields, including politics, defense and security, trade and investment.

He affirmed that Vietnam plays an important role in the RoK's foreign policy and ASEAN-Korea relations, agreeing that the two sides need to continue expanding practical cooperation in areas such as economic security, high technology and other potential areas of cooperation between the two countries.

On the same day, Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu and RoK's First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Chang Ho Jin co-chaired the 5th Vietnam-RoK Strategic Dialogue on diplomacy, security and defense at the level of Deputy Foreign Ministers.

The strategic dialogue took place in the context that the two countries just upgraded their relationship to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in December 2022.

The two sides agreed to continue to strengthen delegation exchanges and contacts at high levels and at all levels, thereby creating good relationships between senior leaders and the people of the two countries.

The two countries will strengthen practical and effective cooperation in the fields of defense and security in accordance with the potential and new framework of relations between the two countries.

The RoK agreed to create favorable conditions for Vietnam's strong goods to be exported to the RoK market and participate in its supply chain, thereby contributing to soon completing the goal of increasing bilateral trade turnover to US$100 billion and aiming for US$150 billion by 2030.

The two sides continued to cooperate in effectively implementing the Korea Economic Development Co-operation Fund (EDCF) and the Economic Development Promotion Facility (EPDF) to implement large-scale investment projects in the field of transportation and urban infrastructure in Vietnam.

First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea (RoK) Chang Ho Jin affirmed that the Ministry will coordinate closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam to seek breakthrough and strategic solutions to strengthen the development of each country and the comprehensive strategic partnership between the RoK and Vietnam.
