The Consulate General of Vietnam in Frankfurt, Federal Republic of Germany, recently coordinated with the Vietnam-Germany Innovation Network (VGInetwork) to successfully organize the scientific seminar "Smart Cities: Artificial Intelligence and Innovation - Practices and Prospects for Vietnam-Germany Cooperation."

Speaking at the event, Consul General Le Quang Long appreciated the initiative of VGInetwork and the Consulate General's science and technology department in organizing seminars, sharing new technology information, contributing to the development of the country's priority economic and technical fields such as smart cities and artificial intelligence.

Consul General Le Quang Long also expressed his joy at the positive developments of VGInetwork such as expanding the network of experts to the southwest of Germany, supporting representative agencies in the area, and contributing to promoting Vietnam-Germany innovation cooperation.

Nguyen Xuan Thinh, head of the spatial information management and modeling research group at the Technical University of Dortmund and also Chairman of VGInetwork, highlighted the network’s outstanding activities and the potential of the countries’ cooperation in smart city and smart building development.

Specifically, the Smart Urban Areas - SUA project has been implementing many new advanced technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality (AR/VR) into the design and construction of smart buildings.

The project was funded by the Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety with 2 million euros for application at Vinhomes Vietnam.

This is one of the typical technology transfer projects between Germany and Vietnam, contributing to realizing the national goal of energy conversion and green, sustainable economic development.

Units participating in the SUA project include the Technical University of Dortmund (Germany), WILO (Germany) and Vingroup/Vinhomes.

During the discussion, Professor-Dr. Vu Duc Binh, a member of VGInetwork, presented content related to research, training and business development on artificial intelligence (AI) at Heidelberg University of Applied Sciences.

According to Professor Binh, artificial intelligence as well as big data management and analysis increasingly play an important role in socio-economic fields such as health, education, industry, and transportation.

They create both opportunities and challenges for the future labor source.

With Germany's digital technology strengths and Vietnam's information technology human resources, AI can absolutely be a promising direction for cooperation, bringing practical benefits to both countries.

Meanwhile, a member of the VGInetwork executive board Vuong Hong Tri, and a working group of the network, who attended the recent inauguration of the Vietnam National Innovation Center in the suburbs of Hanoi, reported on their activities at the Vietnam International Innovation Expo 2023 to open up opportunities for the countries’ cooperation in IT, AI, and manpower training.
