Restaurants in Da Nang offer free ‘taking drunkards home’ service
(VNF) - Ten restaurants in the central city of Da Nang on Wednesday began offering their drunk guests a free taxi service to take them home safely.
The “taking drunkards home” service is part of a pilot program called “Restaurants Act for Traffic Safety – Drivers Act with Civilization and Responsibility,” to be implemented for the 2015-18 period in the central city.
The program is jointly organized by the National Committee on Traffic Safety and the Vietnamese pision of GrabTaxi, the largest mobile taxi booking app firm in Southeast Asia, in a bid to reduce the number of traffic accidents caused by or associated with drunk driving.
The first phase of the program will run for one year, from July this year to July next year.
Apart from offering drunkards free taxi trips home by using the GrabTaxi app, these restaurants will also keep their vehicles as well as their other property overnight and return the assets to them the following day.
Owners of these restaurants have also committed to talking their guests out of driving under the influence.
After Da Nang, the service will be launched on a pilot basis in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
It was earlier proposed that drunk drivers’ cars be detained, but the proposition has met with controversy./.
