Russia Organizes Vietnamese Interpreting Contest

On March 19, Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) under the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs held the first "Vietnamese interpretation contest in specialized communication" at the school's headquarters in the capital Moscow.
Olga Alechsandrovna Maslovets, head of the Department of Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai and Lao languages, of MGIMO, said that the purpose of this first Vietnamese interpretation contest is to improve the skills of students. They are the ones who will continue to strengthen the traditional, and diplomatic relationship between the Russia and Vietnam, also strengthen dialogue, thereby consolidating peace and stability in the region and around the world.
Do Xuan Hoang, president of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Russia, said that this first contest for Vietnamese learners and researchers is meaningful. This shows the interest of Russians and Russian society in Vietnamese, affirming the role and position of Vietnam in the international arena.
With the goal of strengthening the traditional relationship between Vietnam and the Russian Federation, the Traditions and Friendship Foundation supports similar activities, contributing to strengthening mutual understanding between the peoples of the two countries.
Candidates participating in the interpreting contest are divided into two levels: undergraduate level with 15 participants and master level with 3 participants. They come from universities that specialize in Vietnamese language training throughout the Russian Federation. The contest took place in both on-site and online format for contestants in the Far East, Saint-Peterburg, Kazan.
Participating in the contest, the contestants will have to go through 4 parts, including interpreting after hearing a phrase twice and interpreting after having 1 minute to read a text in the political-diplomatic field. In general, each candidate is at different levels. However, all of them try their best to complete the test.
After the contest, there was a roundtable with the topic "Theory and practice in Vietnamese interpretation." Here, Vietnamese experts and Russian diplomats shared their practical work experiences and methods to improve their interpretation skills.
