Sarah Valdez Bolano - Friendly Mexican Ambassador in Vietnamese's Eyes

Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga, President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO), on Nov. 23 conferred the “For peace and friendship among nations” insignia upon outgoing Mexican Ambassador to Vietnam Sara Valdes Bolano.
The award is to recognize and honor the diplomat’s valuable contributions to consolidating and promoting mutual understanding, friendship, cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between Vietnam and Mexico.
Addressing the ceremony, Nga said during her working term, Ambassador Sarah Valdez Bolano has constantly made efforts to maintain and boost bilateral cooperation in various fields from politics-diplomacy to trade, economy, education, culture, as well as local cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.

Her tenure was a period of many important events in the Vietnam - Mexico relationship between Vietnam and Mexico, particularly the celebration of the 40th and 45th founding anniversaries of their diplomatic relations in 2015 and 2020. She noted that the ambassador actively promoted the high-level visit of the President of Mexico to Vietnam to attend the 2017 APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting – the first visit of a Mexican senior leader to Vietnam since the two countries established diplomatic relations.
Regarding economy-trade, the ambassador has actively played an important role in realizing the signing of a number of bilateral cooperation documents between the two countries such as a memorandum of understanding on the establishment of the joint committee on economic, trade and investment cooperation between the Secretariat of Economy of Mexico and the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade in 2016, and a cooperation agreement between the Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade, Investment & Technology and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 2019.
"The ambassador also paid special attention to people-to-people exchanges and cooperation activities. She and the Mexican Embassy personally actively participated in people-to-people diplomacy activities organized by VUFO and the Hanoi Union of Friendship Organizations. Cultural exchange activities, art and artists of the two countries organized by the embassy have made a mark and the presence of Mexican culture in Vietnam, helping the Vietnamese people understand and feel closer to the country and people of Mexico, thereby enhancing the friendship and cooperation between the two peoples in various fields. The image of a friendly ambassador at these activities has left us with very good impressions," emphasized VUFO President.
Expressing her delight to receive the honor, Sarah Valdez Bolano vowed to foster the growing friendship between the Vietnamese and Mexican peoples.
In recent years, both nations paid attention to stepping up their people-to-people exchanges particularly in culture, art, and science, she noted.
Nga hoped the Mexican diplomat will make further contribution to the Vietnam – Mexico traditional friendship and cooperation on her future posts.

Mexico is now the second biggest trading partner of Vietnam in Latin America, while Vietnam is the 8th important import-export market of Mexico in Asia. According to statistics by the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade, the countries’ two-way trade exceeded USD 2.1 billion in the first half of 2021.
