(VNF)- Secretary of the Party Central Committee Ha Thi Khiet met up with a Permanent Representative Vietnamese group to the United Nations and Vietnamese expats and students in New York on Thursday.

Khiet highly appreciated the efforts exerted by the Permanent Representative Vietnamese group to the United Nations and Vietnamese representative agencies in New York in performing their political and community duties.

According to Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, New York is home to around 29,000 members of the Vietnamese community.

Most of them perform simple trades and run small businesses, including eateries, for a living.

The number has seen a continual rise over the past 10 years.

The political promulgation of the expat Vietnamese community has achieved notable results. Many have joined trips to visit Truong Sa and Hoang Sa archipelagoes in their home country, Nga added.

A New York union of overseas Vietnamese youths and students has also been set up with a wide array of practical activities meant to boost the youngsters’ patriotism, solidarity and bonds with their home country./.
