Six Vietnamese Universities Named Among Asia’s Top 500
Vietnam has 11 representatives featured in QS Asia University Rankings 2022 released Tuesday. Though all had appeared in last year’s rankings, five climbed higher, three dropped, and three remained in place.
Of the 11, Ton Duc Thang University in Ho Chi Minh City ranks the highest, at 142nd, up from 163rd place last year and the 207th position in 2020, according to VnExpress.
Vietnam National University Hanoi is placed 147th, up 13 ranks, followed by Vietnam National University HCMC in 179th, down 21.
Duy Tan University in Da Nang City sees a clear improvement, climbing from the 351-400 group to the 210th rank while Hanoi University of Science and Technology rises from the 301-350 to the 281-290 group.
Hue University in central Hue Town ranks in the 401-450 group.
Can Tho University in Mekong Delta’s Can Tho City and the University of Da Nang in Da Nang both land in the group of 501-550.
The remaining Vietnamese universities in the 2022 ranking are Hanoi University of Education and University of Economics HCMC in the 551-600 group, and the Industrial University of HCMC in the 601-650 segment.
Featuring 687 institutions, the 2022 ranking of the top Asian universities is the biggest yet, QS stated.
This year, the National University of Singapore maintained its top position for the third year in a row.
It is followed by Peking University in China and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
Published annually since 2009, QS Asia University Rankings highlights the top universities in Asia each year using 11 indicators: academic reputation (30 percent), employer reputation (20 percent), faculty/student ratio (10 percent), international research network (10 percent), citations per paper (10 percent) and papers per faculty (5 percent), staff with a PhD (5 percent), proportion of international faculty (2.5 percent) and proportion of international students (2.5 percent), proportion of inbound exchange students (2.5 percent) and proportion of outbound exchange students (2.5 percent).

Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) is a young and aspiring university in vibrant Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Established in 1997, Ton Duc Thang University has steadily developed into one of the largest and fastest-growing universities in Vietnam with over 25,000 students and 1.300 faculty members. On Dec. 6, 2019, UI Greenmetric World University Rankings (UI GreenMetric) announced the rankings of 2019, and Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) has been ranked 165 out of 780 leading universities in the world.
On April 3, 2019, THE (Times Higher Education) published the first-ever 2019 University Impact Rankings to recognize universities across the world for their social and economic impact, based on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) was ranked 101-200 in the overall 2019 rankings. The University was ranked very high in Sustainable Cities and Communities, Partnerships for the Goals and Climate Action indicators, reaching scores from 60 to 70 out of 100 worldwide.
On 15 August 2020, ARWU (Academic Ranking of World Universities) announced the results of World university ranking: Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) is ranked No. 1 in Vietnam and 701-800 in the world.
2. Vietnam National University Hanoi

Vietnam National University, Hanoi was founded in 1906 and is a direct descendant of the colonial-era Universite de Indochinie.
Along with Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, it is "one of two leading multidisciplinary and multisectoral universities, tasked with producing highly qualified human resources for the rest of the country". They operate differently from the rest of Vietnam’s higher education, reporting directly to the prime minister, rather than to the education minister, and they have greater autonomy.
Vietnam National University, Hanoi took its current name and shape in 1993 with the merger of the University of Hanoi, the College of Foreign Languages, and Hanoi National Union of Education. It is divided into 12 sub-sections called universities, plus two specialist schools for pupils with exceptional gifts in languages and the natural sciences.
It has the motto "Experience through Knowledge" and a vision that it is "expected to be one of the leading interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary research universities in the world which can contribute to national industrialization and modernization".
In 2016 the Vietnam Japan University was opened in order to "create a new momentum of socio-economic development and contribute to adding more value to Japanese investment in Vietnam" as "a center of cultural and academic exchange between Vietnam and Japan".
The two training and research centers at the university are devoted to national defence and security and physical education and sports. High school students won medals at the 2019 Academic Olympiad for maths, biology and physics.
3. Vietnam National University HCMC

Located in the eastern part of HCMC - the most developed urban area of Vietnam, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNUHCM) was established in 1995 by the government to create a training center for undergraduates, postgraduate and science research, following high-quality and innovative multidisciplinary technology. VNUHCM serves as the core of the higher education system and dedicates to the needs of socio-economic developments.
With a total area of 643.7hectar built under a modern university city model, VNUHCM is one of the largest educational institutions of Vietnam. The university has 26 units of training, scientific research and technology transfer, as well as 8 member units: the University of Technology, University of Science, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, International University, University of Information Technology, University of Economics and Law, and Institute for Environment and Resources.
VNUHCM has over 60.000 full-time students with an academic team of more than 300 professors and associate professors and above 1,200 doctors. In 2019, VNUHCM maintains its ranking in the top 701-750 by the QS UK, which evaluates over 1,000 leading universities in 82 countries.

4. Duy Tan University

Duy Tan University is located in the heart of sunny Da Nang, on the Pacific Ocean. The university has steadily developed, sharing its ambition with the city to create a bustling, modern, international metropolis. Founded by the decree of the Prime Minister of Vietnam on Nov. 11, 1994, Duy Tan University is the first and the largest private, multidisciplinary and diversified institution in Central Vietnam.
For nearly 24 years, thanks to its great efforts, Duy Tan University has made steady progress in education and training. 5. Hanoi University of Science and Technology

University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH, also called Vietnam - France University) is a public university, which was established in 2009 under the Intergovernmental Agreement between Vietnam and France with the ambition to become one of the most excellent research-oriented university at an international standard in Vietnam.

6. Hue University

Hue University is a public, research-oriented university located in Hue, the former imperial capital of Vietnam. It is one of the most important regional universities of Vietnam. In Vietnam, universities are classified into three classes: National University (Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam National University, Hanoi), regional university (Thai Nguyen University, The University of Da Nang and Hue University), and university.
Hue University, formerly known as The University of Hue, was initially established in March 1957. After the reunification of the country in 1975, independent universities were established in Hue on the basis of the existing faculties of The University of Hue. According to Government Decree No. 30/ND-CP dated 4 April 1994, Hue University has been re-established by reorganizing all Hue-based universities.
