Six Vietnamese Universities Named in THE Asia University Rankings

Six Vietnamese universities made the Times Higher Education's 2024 Asian rankings, with one ranking in the top 200.

On April 30, the Times Higher Education (THE) organization revealed the 2024 Asian university rankings, which included 739 schools from 31 nations and territories. Vietnam has six representatives in the rankings.

Ton Duc Thang University is listed in the top 200 and is Vietnam's highest-ranked school. Duy Tan University (group 251 - 300) comes next, followed by Hanoi University of Science and Technology (group 501 - 600), Hanoi National University (group 501 - 600), Hue University (group 601+), and Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (group 601+).

In the Asian region, China has five institutions in the top ten this year, up one from the previous year. For the fifth year in a row, China's Tsinghua University and Peking University are ranked first and second, respectively. Both of these schools have made considerable advances in research quality.

Next are two Singaporean universities: the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University. Japan's University of Tokyo also moved up from eighth to fifth place last year. In addition to Singapore, Hong Kong has two representatives among the top ten.

The 2024 Asian university rankings include 739 institutions. With 119 schools, Japan remains the country with the largest representatives this year. India is next, with 91 schools.

The ranking results are based on 18 indicators comparable to THE's global university rankings but with adjustments that highlight the distinctive characteristics of Asian universities.

Each university is judged in five categories covering the core missions, namely Teaching (the learning environment); Research environment (volume, income, and reputation); Research quality (citation impact, research strength, research excellence, and research influence); International outlook (staff, students and research); and Industry (income and patents).

Ton Duc Thang University

Established as a private school in 1997 by the Ho Chi Minh City Federation of Labor, Ton Duc Thang University became a public school in 2008 after being taken over by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor. It has two campuses in HCMC.

The university has boosted its profile on the global academic map by being consistently listed in world rankings.
