Solutions to Support Women in Digital Transformation in Covid-19

In recent years, the Vietnam Women's Union has identified supporting women's integration and digital transformation as one of the urgent and long-term strategic tasks to achieve the goal of sustainable development. The Covid-19 pandemic is a push that makes digital transformation not only a solution to promote development, but also an indispensable and urgent requirement for countries as well as individuals. In fact, women face many barriers and difficulties in accessing technological equipment, knowledge and skills. Therefore, women are in dire need of raising awareness and digital transformation capacity to take advantage of opportunities to develop themselves and their families, contributing to the overall development of the country.
The Union has implemented activities to support women in digital transformation and international integration. These activities include increasing the use of online platforms in communication activities, training for members and women, training in information technology application skills in business, supporting to connect women with e-commerce platforms to consume products. There are also activities such as effective coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, and the Vietnam Farmers' Union to organize activities supporting the consumption of agricultural products for farmers.
In particular, support for women's international integration and transformation was identified as one of the important guidelines in the draft document of the 13th National Women's Congress. The implementation at all levels of the Union will create a breakthrough, contributing to the development of women and the country's sustainable development goals. In the next term, the Union wishes to expand and improve cooperation with agencies, businesses, domestic and international partners, towards building strategic frameworks for green and sustainable development, for the development of women.
At the seminar "Supporting woman in digital transformation amid the Covid-19 pandemic towards sustainable development" held on October 18 in Hanoi, diplomats, businesses, and local authorities shared a lot of information. They shared experiences, practical activities as well as solutions to improve women's capacity for international integration and digital transformation, especially in the context of the new normal during and after the Covid-19 pandemic. .
After that, to realize the goals of supporting women in digital transformation in the context of Covid-19, from November 8 to November 13, the Vietnam Women's Union organized 15 business training classes on the e-commerce platform for women.
Participating in the class, women will be able to acquire an overview of Vietnam's e-commerce in 2021; indicators of market demand during the Covid-19; study customer behavior; current effective commercial channels, advantages and disadvantages of each channel. The trainers will guide women to build business brands in the online environment such as: how to attract online customers from free channels, choose the right strategy to deploy for each product.

In addition to the effective activities of the Vietnam Women's Union, in early October, the project "Promoting gender equality through economic efficiency, agricultural production and tourism development in Lao Cai and Son La provinces" ( GREAT) funded by the Australian government also organized an online training course. The course provides knowledge and skills to sell, promote products and services on e-commerce platforms for ethnic minority women working in the fields of agriculture and tourism. This is to promote consumption of agricultural products, and community-based tourism on the Lazada e-commerce platform.
More than 70 representatives from the project, government agencies, business partners and ethnic minority women working in agriculture and tourism participated in the course. They shared about how to sell, promote products and services on the e-commerce platform.
Phil Harman, GREAT Project chief advisor, said: "Digital skills are one of the most essential business skills today. However, the Covid-19 pandemic has indirectly made the digital divide between women and ethnic minority communities more pronounced. We are always working to ensure that ethnic minority women have the skills and tools they need to benefit from e-commerce platforms."
