The State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) held a seminar on "Overseas Vietnamese with Vietnam's sea and islands," on Nov. 20.

The seminar was for overseas Vietnamese from all over the world to interact with naval officers and soldiers, review memories of visits to Truong Sa island district and DK1 platforms.

It was also an opportunity to specifically implement Conclusion No. 12-KL/TW of the Politburo on foreign Vietnamese affairs.

The seminar had the participation of officers and soldiers of the Navy - who directly performed their duties in Truong Sa and accompanied the overseas Vietnamese delegation on the voyage to visit the island, and overseas Vietnamese participating directly and online in more than 30 places in Vietnam and around the world.

Speaking at the opening of the seminar, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Quang Hieu, chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, said it was a meaningful activity, continuing the series of activities to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the historic Ho Chi Minh Trail at Sea.

“Independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity are sacred and important issues for each country. Therefore, the people in the country as well as our compatriots abroad always show their deep affection for the soldiers who are guarding the sea, sky, the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the country day and night," said Hieu.

From 2012 to 2019, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs coordinated with the Navy to organize eight groups with the participation of nearly 600 overseas Vietnamese to visit officials, soldiers and people of the Truong Sa island district, DK1 platforms.

Over the years, the organization of delegations to visit Truong Sa and the DK1 platforms has contributed to affirming Vietnam's sovereignty over the Truong Sa archipelago.

Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Huy Kiem shared his feelings when leading overseas Vietnamese to visit Truong Sa and the DK1 platforms.

“The eyes of people from the moment they got off the ship to the end of the trip showed their strong belief in the sovereignty of the sea and islands and the navy, expressing the spirit of patriotism, and the spirit of always looking towards the sea and islands,” he said.

At two sharing sessions "Truong Sa Story" and "Spread Effect," overseas Vietnamese, officers and soldiers of the Navy had the opportunity to review the memories of the trip to visit Truong Sa and DK1 platforms.

The sharing has spread love for the homeland and the country, especially for the soldiers and forces who are guarding the Truong Sa day and night, contributing to the construction and defense of the Fatherland, especially the sovereignty of the sea and islands.

Overseas Vietnamese expressed their confidence in the Party and State's policy of resolutely defending the country's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, sea and islands; they also expressed their respect and admiration for the contributions, sacrifices and spirit of readiness to fight to protect the Fatherland of Truong Sa officers and soldiers.

Before the seminar, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs also held a photo exhibition of Truong Sa and the DK1 platforms.
