St.Petersburg and HCMC set example for Vietnam-Russia friendship

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Vietnam - Russia's strategic partnership establishment (2001-2021), the two countries virutally met on May 19, for a videoconference entitled "Two decades of friendship, two decades of strategic partnership." It was held at Ho Chi Minh City and Saint Peterburg City.
Vietnam's delegation at the conference includes Politburo member, Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen; Vietnam Union of Friendship Associations (VUFO) President, Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga; Vice-Chairman of Party Central Committee's Commission for External Relations Nguyen Thi Hoang Van, and representatives from Vietnam Embassy to Russia.
Russia's delegation includes St.Petersburg's Mayor Alexandr Beglov, Russian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Sadykov Timur Sirozhevich.

St.Peterburg's Mayor attached great importance to the event and affirmed that Russia - Vietnam's cooperation was based on mutual trust and deep respect. St. Peterburg and Ho Chi Minh City have previously help developed the two countries' relations. The mayor believed that the firm foundation built over the decades would fuel the two cities to soon implement new projects and continue to strongly develop cooperation for the benefit of the two countries' people.
Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen affirmed that Vietnam - Russia's nowadays relations were the continuation and inheritance of their good traditional friendship, which was built from the revolution of Vietnam and the Soviet Union and had developed over many generations. The Vietnamese and the Russian people, though are geographically far apart yet close in the soul, share the same desires. These resemblances are causes for them to together shine above struggles and build a traditional relationship that still stands tall today.

Regarding the two cities' friendly cooperations, Nen said the relations were established in 2005 and had shown good development. The two sides have regularly held high-level delegation exchanges and coordinated to hold seminars, conferences, technology sharing. The cities have also completed procedures to establish friendly and cooperative relations between Kronstadt district (Saint Petersburg) and Can Gio district (Ho Chi Minh City). It is expected that the cities' leaders will sign an MoU to establish relations in November 2021. They also actively work to establish a Ho Chi Minh city Center for Economy, Tourism, and Culture in Saint Peterburg. According to Nen, the two cities still has big rooms for cooperation, as they are both leading city in their countries in term of development.
Reviewing Vietnam - Russia's two decades of friendship, Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga said that though the last two decades had witnessed changes in each country's development, the traditional and faithful friendship between the Vietnamese and the Russian would last forever. On that good foundation, St.Petersburg - Ho Chi Minh city's relations have been seeing strong development.

"It could be said that St.Petersburg and HCMC have set an example for the friendship and cooperation between localities in particular, between Vietnam and Russia in general. We are witnessing the Covid-19 pandemic negatively impacting every nation and every international lives' aspect. Responding to the pandemic and overcoming its consequences requires cooperation among all countries. Ho Chi Minh City and St.Petersburg are the two locomotives of each country's socio-economic development, with many potentials and strengths that can be shared and supported by each other" - VUFO President emphasized.
During the conference, delegates observed two Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremonies. One of them is between HCMC's Department of Education and Training and Saint Peterburg's Committee of Education. The other is between Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Saint Peterburg's Committee for Youth policy and Social organizations Interaction and Committee for External Relations. These two MoUs will contribute to promoting cooperation in education and youth policy.
