Strengthening EU-Ho Chi Minh City Cooperation on Green and Digital Innovation

Vice Chairman Vo Van Hoan expressed his gratitude to the ambassadors for their efforts during their tenures in Vietnam to promote multifaceted cooperation. These efforts have significantly enhanced relations between Vietnam and European nations and between HCMC and European localities.

The relationship between HCMC and European localities has become increasingly close, with many localities engaging in meaningful exchanges to make cooperative activities more specific, effective, and practical. Numerous meetings and interactions between HCMC authorities and the EU’s locality leaders have been organized, alongside an increase in people-to-people exchanges.

On the economic front, two-way trade between HCMC and the EU market reached approximately US $7.3 billion by the end of 2023. Additionally, the EU currently has nearly 1,600 investment projects in HCMC.

Vice Chairman Vo Van Hoan acknowledged the significant contributions of the EU Business Association, which has facilitated connections and provided support for EU businesses investing in HCMC. Furthermore, the association has undertaken practical initiatives, such as the annual Green Economy Forum and Exhibition (GEFE) 2024, held in HCMC. This forum is a pivotal event that serves as a driving force to inspire and spread the spirit of economic innovation in the city, particularly towards green growth, digital transformation, and the circular economy.

Ambassador of the EU to Vietnam Guerier Julien commended HCMC for its role and position as Vietnam's leading economic hub. He also emphasized the EU’s high regard for the prospects of cooperation with Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh City.

The Ambassador noted that EU businesses are interested in expanding their investments in Vietnam. This includes enterprises specializing in green and sustainable products, digital technology, and initiatives aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
