Themed ‘Equal Families,' the photo contest looks to promote equality within Vietnamese families through husbands and wives sharing household responsibility while pursuing their own professional success.

At the press conference in Hanoi on Monday to announce the launch of the contest, Swedish Ambassador Pereric Högberg stressed the pivotal role of equal families in the path to achieving an equal society, and that investment in gender equality and economic empowerment of women and girls is a smart investment for society as a whole.

Ambassador Högberg added that the photo contest would offer him a better understanding of gender equality in Vietnam through the lens of local photographers.

Set to run between March 8 and May 15, the contest will select 30 of the best photos to be featured in an exhibition on the same theme and award three top prizes worth VND10 million (US$439), VND8 million ($351) and VND7 million ($307) respectively.

The first and second prizes will be selected by a board of judges, while the third prize is to be voted on by Facebook users through the official page of the Swedish Embassy in Vietnam.

Photo submissions are to be sent to the Swedish Embassy in Hanoi in person, by post or via email, from Wednesday./.
