Mitsue Pembroke, acting chief of Mission of the IOM, stated that Vietnam's publication of the 2023 Migration Profile demonstrates its proactivity in implementing the United Nations Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration.

According to the Vietnam Migration Profile 2023, labor migration is the main type of migration of Vietnam for 2017-2023 with nearly 860,000 workers working abroad under contracts, equivalent to more than 100,000 people per year, most concentrated in Taiwan (China), Japan and South Korea.

Mihyung Park, chief of mission at the International Organisation for Migration Vietnam, said the country had contributed to the building and ratification of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration.

Vietnamese living abroad sent home 17.2 billion USD worth of remittances in 2020, a year-on-year increase of 3 percent, making the country the third-largest remittance recipient in the East Asia and Pacific region.
