United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix appreciated Vietnam's effective participation in UN peacekeeping operations. The capacity, qualifications, professionalism and sense of responsibility of Vietnamese soldiers in the process of performing their duties at UN peacekeeping missions have helped improve the effectiveness of the missions' operations.

General Phan Van Giang, member of the Politburo, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, and Vietnamese Minister of National Defense presided over an official welcoming ceremony and held talks with Japanese Minister of Defense Kihara Minoru on August 6 in Hanoi.

At the invitation of the Mongolian Defense Minister Gürsediin Saikhanbayar, Vietnamese Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang led a delegation of the Vietnamese high-ranking military delegation to pay an official visit to Mongolia from October 25 to 27.
