Vietnam continues to “put emphasis on the protection and promotion of all human rights and fundamental freedoms of our people, even in this most difficult of times", and is thus presenting its candidature for membership of the UN Human Rights Council for the term 2023-2025.

China won a seat on the United Nations's premiere human rights body for three year terms (2021 – 2023) on October 13 despite opposition from activist groups, The Associated Press reported.

Vietnam pledges to protect and promote human rights, with priority given to the vulnerable, while rapidly restoring the post-COVID-19 economy and achieving its UN Sustainable Development Goals.
