Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thi Lien recalled many times she and her engineering soldiers encountered danger in South Sudan. When introducing themselves as Vietnamese and showing the national flag, the indigenous people no longer caused any difficulties.

On the afternoon of December 10, in Hanoi, the Ministry of National Defense held a ceremony to award the President's Decision to officers performing United Nations peacekeeping missions at the Republic of South Sudan, the Central African Republic and Abyei region.

The UN Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for South Sudan and the Head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) highly appreciated the contributions of military medical officers and soldiers of the Level 2 Field Hospital and the Vietnamese peacekeeping police working at UNMISS.

On the afternoon of June 12, the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations (Ministry of National Defense) held a ceremony to see off the remaining 156 out of a total of 184 members of Vietnam's Military Engineer Unit No. 1 joining the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA).
