Tet Cheer Reaches 1.48 Million Poor Families in Vietnam

On February 3, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs provided an update on social welfare measures for the Lunar New Year 2025. According to the report, more than 1.48 million poor and near-poor households have received support and Tet gifts, with a total value exceeding VND 786 billion.

In line with the directives of the Party Secretariat and the Prime Minister to ensure that all citizens enjoy a joyful, safe, healthy, economical, and uplifting Tet celebration, the Ministry has adopted the principle of "Tet for everyone, Tet for every home."

The Ministry has issued official instructions to localities to strengthen social welfare measures and ensure safety during Tet. It has also collaborated with central and local agencies to organize various activities to visit and present Tet gifts to policy beneficiaries, the poor, disadvantaged individuals, and workers across the country.

According to reports from the Departments of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs, more than 13.5 million people nationwide have received Tet support and gifts, with a total budget exceeding VND 7.943 trillion, an increase of VND 181 billion compared to 2024. This includes nearly VND 711 billion from the central government budget, approximately VND 4.452 trillion from local budgets, and over VND 2.779 trillion from social mobilization efforts.

The State President has decided to present gifts to over 1.66 million revolution contributors and the families of martyrs, with a total budget exceeding VND 506.75 billion.

The combined funding from central and local budgets, along with social mobilization contributions for supporting and gifting Tet presents to individuals with meritorious services and their families, amounts to approximately VND 2.804 trillion, an increase of VND 59 billion compared to the Lunar New Year 2024.

Regarding food aid, as of February 2, 2025, the Prime Minister had issued five decisions to provide a total of more than 6,876 tons of rice to 104,315 households, benefiting 458,401 individuals facing food shortages during the Lunar New Year and the early-year lean period in 10 provinces. The distribution of rice has been completed, ensuring that no one experiences food shortages during the Tet celebration.

Significant attention has been given to supporting social protection beneficiaries, poor households, and children in particularly difficult circumstances. Localities have developed plans to care for policy beneficiaries during Tet through various diverse and meaningful initiatives. Over 1.1 million elderly individuals have received longevity wishes and Tet gifts, amounting to more than VND 673 billion.

Additionally, over 445,000 disadvantaged children and impoverished youth have received visits and Tet gifts, with a total budget exceeding VND 196 billion. Furthermore, more than 1.48 million poor and near-poor households have received Tet support and gifts worth over VND 786 billion, while over 1.3 million social protection beneficiaries have received gifts valued at more than VND 918 billion.

Localities have actively responded to the nationwide campaign "Joining hands to eradicate temporary and dilapidated housing in 2025," yielding positive outcomes. Many citizens have been supported to celebrate Tet in newly constructed homes, with over 22,000 houses completed and nearly 20,500 houses under construction, including 6,962 houses for revolution contributors.
