This year, the nine-day Tet holiday, combined with favorable weather conditions, has fueled a surge in travel activity across the country. Tourists have shown a strong preference for heritage, spiritual, and cultural destinations such as Da Lat, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Vung Tau, Hanoi, Mui Ne, Hoi An, and Sa Pa.

Additionally, mountainous destinations in northern Vietnam have attracted a significant number of visitors from the southern provinces. Independent travel, small-group and family trips, and self-booked services at destinations, continue to grow in popularity, particularly in areas close to major tourism markets like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

The Lunar New Year holiday has also seen a notable increase in international arrivals to various localities. Quang Ninh welcomed an estimated 228,700 visitors, while Da Nang received over 228,000, a 29% increase from 2024. Quang Nam recorded 157,000 visitors, up 40%; Hanoi saw 142,000 arrivals, reflecting a 15.8% rise; and Ho Chi Minh City hosted approximately 87,358 international tourists, up 16.5%.

This growth can be attributed to Vietnam’s favorable visa policies, strategic restructuring of tourist markets, and efforts by local authorities and businesses to refresh tourism products and promote the country’s attractions on a wider scale.

Major travel agencies such as Hanoitourist, Saigontourist, Vietravel, Du Lich Viet, and Benthanhtourist have introduced various new domestic and international tour programs, offering attractive promotions. These companies have focused on highlighting regional strengths and enhancing connectivity through the “one route, multiple destinations” model while diversifying services to maximize revenue during the holiday season.

Notably, several localities with international seaports have welcomed cruise ship tourists during Tet 2025. Da Nang received the Crystal Symphony and Silver Dawn, bringing 1,800 American and British passengers to explore the city. Meanwhile, Quang Ninh hosted four cruise ships, Mediteranea, Celebrity Solstice, Silver Dawn, and Crystal Symphony, carrying a total of 6,000 visitors and 4,000 crew members for the first landings of the year.

Accommodation establishments nationwide have proactively upgraded facilities and prepared their workforce to cater to the influx of visitors. Many have partnered with travel agencies and airlines to offer all-inclusive promotional packages. Traditional Tet celebrations have been creatively renewed to provide guests with a joyful and unique holiday experience. Hotel room rates have seen a slight increase of 5-10%, with no reports of price gouging or overbooking.

Airlines have also increased flight frequencies, including additional night flights, to accommodate travel demand during the holiday. Domestic carriers have provided over 6.9 million seats on both international and domestic routes, averaging 227,000 seats per day, a 4% increase from Tet 2024. The additional flights mainly focus on routes connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi with Da Nang, Hai Phong, Vinh, Thanh Hoa, Hue, Da Lat, Nha Trang, and Phu Quoc.

During the nine-day Tet holiday, Tan Son Nhat International Airport is expected to handle over four million passengers, while Noi Bai International Airport is projected to serve 90,000-100,000 travelers daily, equivalent to 560-600 flights. Da Nang International Airport is estimated to manage 1,275 flights over the same period. Notably, Phu Quoc International Airport has recorded a record-breaking number of arrivals, with 38-40 flights per day, 70% of which are international.

This year's Tet tourism market has also seen a surge in train travel, with popular routes including Hanoi-Lao Cai, Quang Binh, and Ho Chi Minh City-Nha Trang, Hue, and Da Nang. The railway sector has launched the "Spring Train" service, offering passengers unique experiences such as a countdown party on board, traditional folk games, and Tet-specialty cuisine. Additional trains have been deployed on the North-South route and local railway lines to meet increased demand.
